I'm purple and gold through and through, but I can't fault a kid with the chops to get into Stanford taking the opportunity.

Who was the last LSU baseball player to commit and then decommit?

Gavin Cecchini? Seriously, it happens all the time in baseball. Last year the Bell kid from Texas decomitted because the school cancelled legacy scholarships.

I'm guessing this is a 2013 guy, as in 2013-2014, not the 2013 season.

I love the Tigers, but I'd go to Stanford in a heartbeat if I got offered.

I wouldn't go to Stanford over LSU if given the chance, but that's just how much I love LSU and devalue education

Kind of a different subject and I'm not saying you said anything to this effect JR but what is the difference in this kid's decision to not fulfill his commitment to LSU and a kid that decides to sign with a pro team for millions of dollars and have his college paid for in his contract. The kid going to Stanford is patted on the back but the kid that gets paid gets hammered on the board. They both changed their minds and did not fulfill their commitment to the purple and gold didn't they?

LSU backed off late. His offer was noncommittable.

There's nothing wrong with a kid signing for millions with MLB if he is upfront with the coaching staff about that possibility and his intentions.

That said, one difference is that this kid decommitted a year before the signing deadline, meaning the coaches have plenty of time to find his replacement. Obviously that is not the case when a guy signs with MLB. As irrational as it is to blame the kid going to MLB, that is probably why fans give more grief to a MLB-bound recruit than a decommit well in advance.

I can see your point of view. I just hate when people get on here and really bash some great kids all because they chose to change their mind about going to LSU and accepting a large paycheck that usually puts over $1M into their savings after taxes plus they still get their education paid for. I understand it at times puts LSU in a bind but really there aren't many of us that would and/or could walk away from that kind of money to go to LSU especially when these high draft picks most of the time are going to college to eventually enter the professional sports ranks.
