That's a fricking horrid deal.

Even though Evans is on the way out in Sac-Town, he's worth more than that. Someone will make a decent offer for him by the deadline.

A) The rumored deal was refuted by 2 sources according to Sam Amick.

B) If they got Lowry their primary need would be SF and role players. Assuming MKG and Barnes are off the board at 5 then picking up Lowry and 2 good role players for #5 and a guy they are allegedly having trouble finding much of a trade market for is probably a better move than taking Drummond or Lillard and hoping for the best.

I don't think there's any way they can get DWill because they don't have the assets to get high picks without taking back bad contracts, but the HW Rockets guy says the plan appears to be go after Howard and sign DWill. If that falls through the plan is to go after Howard and then trade for Gay or Josh Smith.

Lowry isn't enough to move down that far. Hell if they want a mid pick that bad then trade Evans for one. Buddinger just netted the Rockets the 18th pick.

@AlexKennedyNBA Deron Williams had narrowed down his list to Brooklyn and Dallas. However, if Dwight Howard is traded to Houston, everything changes.

Unless one of them can be had for KMart's expiring + Motiejeunas or something, I don't know what kind of assets they'll have left over after getting Howard.

I don't think they have what it takes to get it done either. A few days ago I read that the Houston owner is tired of missing the playoffs, the same owner that reportedly mandated they try and make the playoffs every year and wouldn't let Morey blow it up. So this may be Morey's last chance to save his job and he's planning to fire all the ammo he's been stock piling, even if it isn't enough.

Somehow, I doubt that Deron will go to Houston just because D12 gets traded there.

Current assets-

Dalembert - $6.7m team option, with a $1.5m buyout
Martin - $13m expiring deal
Lowry - $6m, 2 seasons
Courtney Lee - RFA
Patrick Patterson - Rookie deal w 2 years left including QO
Marcus Morris - Rookie deal with 3 years left including QO
Chandler Parson - 1 year, 2 team options
Greg Smith - 2 team options
Jeff Adrien - 1 team option, 1 QO

Draft picks 14, 16, 18 in 2012

Conditional future 1st, to be given no sooner than 2015

I don't count Scola as an "asset".

They MIGHT have enough to get Howard, but the only other player left on the roster will be Scola and whatever trash Orlando sends with Howard like Turkoglu.

And I don't see how they do a deal with Sac/GS/Tor without having to take back Salmons/Biedrins/Amir Johnson. So they get 2 top 8 picks to trade for Howard, but also have to take on 3 dead weight contracts when you throw Turkoglu into the mix. They won't have the cap space to sign DWill and probably won't have the assets to get Gay or Smith.

The Rockets have been linked to Dwight Howard in recent days, but sources close to the situation say that acquiring Howard would only be the first step in Houston’s master plan. The team would then try to acquire a second star player, with Deron Williams atop their wish list, to put next to Howard. If all goes as planned, Houston will have the resources to trade for Howard and sign Williams to a max contract.

I don't think this will work out as they intend it.

The amount of cap space and assets necessary to get Howard would likely make it very hard to sign Deron to a significant deal.
