GingerMerkin and I made a run to Galliano and caught a few reds. The new Hobie performed admirably and even towed his lazy arse back to the landing.

Gingermerkin, my brother and I smacked them this morning in Fourchon. 25 yard paddle/peddle off old LA 1. Terrible tide movement, 20 mph wind, cold, and they wanted IN the yaks.

For someone looking, not sure if it's still available since the ad is a few weeks old but a newer model FS12T with a Bend Branches paddle for $450 is a pretty damn good deal for someone looking to get started.

It was easy money. Bridgeside had live shrimp and that was all she wrote. I'm thinking of making another trip next weekend.

I just keep the shrimp In a 5 gallon bucket with an aerator? Or did your drag a "bait bucket"?

Good question, GingerMerkin insisted on buying two $10.00 aerators and affixing them to floating bait buckets, which we used while we were driving up and down LA 1 looking for good water. Once launched, I took off the aerator and replaced with fresh water, then stowed the bucket until I anchored to fish, at which point I dropped it overboard. I'd leave it floating until I moved, and then I'd stow it until I anchored again.

Merkin left his aerator on all day and never replaced the water, and his shrimp were as alive as mine at the end of the day.

So, either way, the $10.00 aerators worked.

Grats on the catch; we were in the same area last weekend and destroyed them! (old hwy 1, short paddle and about 50 reds total caught between my son and I)

Speaking of Reds, what are those fish at the bottom of the pile in between the trout? They look like reds. . . really, really small reds. . .

Oh, and be careful fishing some of the areas off old HWY1 (closer to Fourchon)

There is a wildlife sanctuary there that is posted. . . great fishing in there, but it is patrolled by the Port Commission and if they catch you back there it will end up costing you some Benjamin's

As I understood the restrictions, LA 1 between Fourchon and Grand Isle was off limits (not that you could tell, because people were stopped every few hundred yards fishing), and old LA 1 was fair game. Either way, good luck to them enforcing that, unless they have a dedicated patrolman making rounds all day.

Fear not, that is the rare and elusive channel mullet, they are delicious.

So are we talking about the side of LA 1 that faces south, IE, the portion between Fourchon and Grand Isle? I haven't seen any posted signs or wildlife sanctuary signs?
