I bought one of those battery powered stick lights at Academy. Forgot how much but wasn't too expensive. Puts off a lot of light and you can just stick it in a rod hder. You can also get away with a cap light I think

Yeah, maybe not.

But then again, a lot of trolling is done just a few hundred yards off of the shore. No snapper or anything, but Kings, spanish, and Pompano for sure. And I would imagine a few other species.

Gotta pick your days.

I've taken my old yak out in the gulf. Didn't fish any. But it was nice to paddle around in clearer water and be able to see fish around you.

Why in the hell didn't you bring a rod?

I did, but the first time I tried paddling out from the beach. Breaker flipped me and snapped my rods.

That's when I learned it's best to pull it past the breakers and jump in on the sandbar.

No biggie, Academy took them back.

But the same goes with coming in. Don't try to paddle all the way in, you're just asking to get flipped.

So you just swim with the kayak until you're past the breakers?

It's not very easy to just hop out of my sit in kayak though

Not swim, just walked it out to the first sandbar. Never got more than a 4' deep. After that, it was smooth sailing... until I came back in.

From what I have read on the forum is that it's better to try and launch/pickup at a deeper spot. It's really only a problem once the wave rolls over. That's what flips you.

Some people say they paddle in backwards. But screw that, I've picked enough gear out of the gulf to not chance it.

I had a dream Last night I was fishing in my kayak in the bay and GJ stopped me and wrote me a $450 ticket for not having a saltwater license

I had one. Super nice to fish out of. Very comfortable. It's pretty heavy and pretty slow, so if you need to transport it a long way or paddle a long way, might want to check out the FS12T. But for pure fishing comfort, I reccomend. Plus it already has rod holder and anchor trolley, that's nice.

You can stand very easily in the FS12T. I paddled around most of the day the other day in mine.

I'm fat, I could barely stand in the 128T. Bought a Hobie.

There was a FS12T on Facebook on the Bayou Coast Kayak Fishing Club group page a few days ago for $500. They're $550 new plus tax so probably would save yourself about $100 or so.

ETA: just went look, looks like it's been sold.

Anyone try out the 2015 Hobies with the new seat? The seat has always been the big drawback for me with the Outback, but it appears they've fixed the problem...

I missed the damn demo day at the LSU lakes this weekend, and I believe it was the last one until the spring.

Saw them this weekend and they look legit. I might just put a Jackson seat in my 14 outback
