Watching the 2004 Wimbledon final and dude could freaking grip and rip.

I'd forgotten how dangerous he was at one time. What was he thinking?

Hes the only coach I know of who would turn 2004 Roddick into a baseline specialist who's not very good at the baseline

He could have won three total majors or so if he would have stuck with Gilbert

According to his supermodel wife, Roddick's got 2 Wimbeldon's and 2 US opens left (2 years until retirement).

Don't count the Aussie or French because he is garbage on clay and for whatever reason has been shite in Melbourne.

Setting the O/U at .5 quarter finals in those 4 slams.

over. hell he was in the quarters at the US open last year.

If he takes time off and only focuses on those two tournaments he'll make one with the right draw.

True but he has only been to 2 quarters since the loss to Fed in that epic Wimbledon final.

That being said, I think he sneaks in a quarterfinal berth (maybe even a semi) somewhere in that span.

There better be an official Andy Roddick rally thread next week.

The MSB can put him over the top.

I'll get this shite going. I started the 09 final thread that almost got him the Wimbledon win so maybe this will be our time.

I disagree.

What basis do you have for saying that.

Under

Hell, he can't get out of the first round of a shitty 250 level tournament.

It's painful watching the "new" Roddick try to chip and charge on people. He's just so uncomfortable off the baseline. Gilbert embraced what Roddick was. He preached aggressiveness and an attacking philosophy. This new clown has tried to turn Roddick into a pseudo-Lleyton Hewitt ground you down 5 set kind of player. Fvck that noise.

Gimme the Roddick who was bold, went for aces on every serve, ran around 75% of his backhands and whipped that inside-out forehand like he was beating a ginger step-son. THAT guy was awesome to watch.

Doubtful.

The fact of the matter is that he was never a great tennis player. He had a huge serve and a huge forehand. And that's it. He didn't move particulary well. He was never comfortable serving and volleying. His backhand was never anything other than mediocre.

Really, he was lucky to get the one major. That was US Open 2003. By 2004, this fella named Federer was entering his prime, and this other fella named Nadal was the new wunderkind on the scene.

Those guys were just better at tennis than him. They moved better, they had more versatile games, they were all around better athletes.

Look at what a 17 year old Rafa Nadal did to Andy Roddick in the 2004 Davis Cup final. Nadal was new on the scene. He was ranked 51st in the world. Only hardcore tennis fans knew who he was at the time. Enjoy the festivities.

I don't think anyone is saying he could have been an all-timer, but why someone would try to turn a player with the obvious weaknesses you listed into an all-around grinder is beyond me. With his inability to move exceptionally well and put anything on his backhand he needed to be the aggressor in every point. When they started trying to get him to wear down opponents and come to the net is when I knew he was done.

O and I remember that Davis Cup Final. I'm not hardcore enough of a fan to say I would have normally known about someone like Rafa, but I was living in Mallorca at the time and he was already a legend there. Watching that kid in that town is one of my favorite memories as a sports fan.

Working Nadal with videos into a thread about Roddick.

I'm shocked.
