leading the conference in runs trumps that argument

we scored more runs than any team in the SEC this season. is that not the offensive goal in baseball?

I don't know if the numbers will back me up, but it seems we peaked midway through the SEC season. Pitching helped get us over the edge to win the conference in Columbia. In the postseason, where producing high pitch counts and timely hitting is key, our hitting was horrible.

For SEC games only:

4th in Average
6th in slugging
5th in on base
7th in runs scored
4th in hits
5th in RBI
9th in Doubles
10th in Tripes
Tied 2nd in HR(3 teams with 22)
8th in strikeouts

We definitely had a lot more trouble scoring in conference games than non conference.

SEC Only Team Leaders

Are these season stats or conference play stats?

season stats to make the point that our hitting is not some sort of crazy epidemic of futility

we hit a wall and it bit our team in the arse

to say that we have sucky hitting and sucky hitting coaches does not pass the sniff test after you analyze the numbers

who gives a shite? uf, usce, and ark are in the series and we are not. I dont care how we hit if we win. Hitting coaches are overrated, he checked out for a season, what the hell are we paying this guy to do exactly. We are allowing ourselves to slip into mediocrity. CPM is good, but not excellent and for the money he is making he shouldn't be throwing our players under the bus and taking years off to give speeches. Some of you are so blinded by the purple and gold tinted glasses it is insane. The buck always stops at the boss.

Lead the SEC at hitting into double plays! USC and UF were 11 & 12.

Our offense was not all that and a bag of chips!

I think you're tracking right. We simply didn't play our best ball when we needed to. Example, Rhymes had an incredible year at the plate, but he slumped big time at the end.

Being 7th within conference play trumps that.

I don't care if we batted 1.000 in the regular season. When it really counted, we folded vs. mediocre pitching. That's why we're sitting at home. Yes, it happens in baseball.

Stony Brook had a superior lineup in terms of talent, but I'm not going to believe it was as big of a gap as the sheer dominance suggested last weekend. It was obvious who had the better approach at the plate on every AB. LSU looked like a high school team compared to them in terms of that.

... baseball axiom : Its not how many hits , its when you hit 'em...
.. in that sense - hard to believe Tigers were "1st in RBIs " . They sure didn't have many "RBIs" on Super Regional weekend ...

You're being silly. LSU had a decent year hitting in the SEC, but our staff is what won the conference for us this year.

The SEC stats are very telling of a team that can't hit very well against good pitching. The bad part is it includes the likes of Alabama who is not SEC caliber.

i totally agree

to say that we are falling into mediocrity is still absurd by any definition
