about to move into a new apartment, with a backyard, which means i can finally get a grill

honestly i have not touched a grill in almost 5 years when i was still living at home with the parents, so im a blank slate when it comes to knowledge on the subject.

so im looking for a new grill... around the $200 or less budget. doesnt have to be anything fancy just something i can cook burgers and steaks on.

what are some good brands? gas or charcoal?

thanks for the help

I picked up the weber platinum charcoal grill.... mostly cause it comes on stand with side tables. Paid right at $250. Love it, the side tables and wheels are great additions. I also picked up grill grates, one of the best accessories I have. Look them up, they work. Go to bbqguys.com and check it out there, probably the best prices and they ship for free. Oh, its charcoal. your not going to find a decent gas grill for that price. One more thing, there are accessories to make the weber a smoker as well.... most versatile pit for the money on the market.

Since you haven't grilled in so long, why don't you pick up one of these?

Chargrilled Duo

This way you can play around with both ad decide which one you like better, or just stick with both.

My BIL has one of these and he seems to like it. It won't hold up for more than a few years unless it's under cover, but by then you'll have a good idea of what you want and you can buy whichever you want.

I love me Weber 22.5" kettle for $99.

If you decide on a charcoal pit regardless of brand get yourself charcoal chimney starter.

I'd go with a weber kettle like others said. if the complex has any rules about open flames you could look at the weber q300. had one years ago when living in an apartment

I bought a Brinkmann barrel type pit with a side firebox for smoking for 150 in Feb. Love it.

BTW, saw the exact same thing for 250 at another place, so shop around.

If you aren't too lazy for charcoal, the webber kettle is the answer. I would get the 22.5 in. one touch gold.

What does the gold refer to? What's different about it?

The gold has a metal bucket for an ash catcher. The silver just has the metal plate. Go with the gold.

The Weber is a classic, but the side tables are almost a necessity for me.

Been reading the reviews, looking like the weber gold is the front runner, will definitely get a chimney starter.... Just to make things easier

portable kitchen grills are a great purchase as well for your price point. the cast aluminum frame holds in heat really well and is great for grilling. you can smoked on these as well, but due to its limited size, can be a bit tricky.

I'm thinking about getting one of these Char-Griller Duo's. I like the versatility of having the gas grill and the charcoal grill together, and space is an issue. The reviews on the Lowe's site are mostly good, but I tend not to trust those things. Does anyone have an opinion on this combo grill?
