Thank God for June, after a 14-15 month of May that included an 8 game losing streak. Unfortunately, June is going to be a hard test as well as all but 3 of our games will be played against teams from the very tough East divisions. There are two series against the Nats, one against the Fish, one against the Blue Jays, two against the Yankees, one against the O's, and one against the Red Sox.

We start with the Nats who still lead the division, but are only 2 games up on our 4th place Braves. Here are the pitching matchups with the first two being re-matches from last week:

Tonight (6:10) - Minor (6.98 ERA) vs Strasburg (2.64 ERA)
Tomorrow (3:05) - Beachy (1.77 ERA) vs Gonzalez (2.04 ERA)
Sunday (12:35) - Hanson (3.84 ERA) vs Zimmerman (2.80 ERA)

I will post the lineup when it is released, but it will include the major league debut of Andrelton Simmons.

And to toot my own horn a little bit, this is from my prospect rankings are the 2010 season:
quote:

7. Andrelton Simmons(SS) - Most rankings don't come close to including Simmons but I like him a lot. Amazing defense with a gun as an arm.

And I will also eat crow:
quote:

5. Matt Lipka(SS) - I like Lipka a lot even though he's only been with the Braves for a short period of time. I fully expect him to be the guy to finally bring some solid speed back to Atlanta but that will be a few years away. He's an above average hitter that will never bring much pop, but won't need that when he's batting in the leadoff spot. Has decent patience that will only get better with experience. Expect him to be a .290 guy with a .360 OBP and 35-40 SB every year which will be just what the team needs with all the power he will have behind him. I don't have confidence that he'll be able to stick at SS even though we really need him there. Might have to make a move to CF where I think he'll be more than capable. He's only 18 so I'd expect him in probably 2014 if he continues to develop properly.

And sadly, our offseason thread from then was only 11 pages long

Let's start doing this shite again

Hopefully June is better than May for sure. I'll be rolling into the Ted for the last series against the Nats at the end of the month.

I'm freakin pumped about Simmons. Even if the dude struggles at the plate his D will more than make up for it.

Nice

You should feel good knowing you won't have to see Minor pitch.

He will most definitely struggle at first, and I hope people around here don't jump down his throat for it.

He's only had 200 PA above A+ ball.

Everytime I think of Minor walking out to the bump tonight, I keep getting a replay of that scene from the Green Mile..."Dead man walking, we got a dead man walking here".

Seeing the Cubs fire sale thread, would freaking love the Braves to make a run at Dempster.

Hell I'd even take Soriano assuming Cubs paid vast majority of his contract.
