That is exactly what will happen. People will just buy two 16 oz instead of one 20 oz. But that also helps NYC by providing more tax revenue for the additional drink purchased. Morons.

No, the alternative is to practice personal responsibility. If you are fat, and eat like shit, that's your own prerogative. And if the result of you being fat, means that you health insurance rates are raised, or it is hard for you to get insurance, then again, that is your fault, and yours alone.

The nanny state doesn't need to regulate this shite. Let people take responsibility for their own actions, plain and simple.

If they're going to do this as part of the "let's get every American on their rooftop begging for Government rules & assistance" program, then why not the diet sodas, aren't these really just as bad - or worse?

I remember back in the day a large coke at McDonalds was the size of the current medium. There was no super size. When the "larger" large came out I remember thinking it was crazy big.

Looking back at class pics back then there was just a few fat kids in class. We were mostly skinny little kids. Today there are fatass kids everywhere.

Yeah, we can't have people making their own decisions on how much soda they will drink. The Government knows best.

Have you seen this country lately? Clearly the government does know best compared to all the fatasses that walk around.

Not too surprised by this considering some of the other health initiatives they have here such as the ban on smoking pretty much anywhere, ban of trans-fats in restaurants and requirements to post the number of calories in meals.

Since moving here, I have noticed that there seems to be a much smaller percentage of fat people than when I lived in Atlanta and Baton Rouge. Then again, I don't attribute that to people making healthy eating decisions but the fact that you have to walk so much more than other cities.

Also, while I don't agree with the government imposing their health views on me, I have enjoyed the smoking bans since I am not a smoker. Luckily I usually only drink water so this won't bother me either.

I'd be happy to quit paying for their healthcare too

And a higher price on those products provides incentive.

Kind of like a higher tax on, say, cigarettes.

It is extremely noticeable for me here in Colorado.

Have you seen the FDA's food pyramid? If you followed it to a T, you'd be a fat frick. We give out more food stamps than any time in history. Have you seen what people buy with food stamps? Yeah...

So cokes are purely responsible for fat kids? Grow up. If you want to hold someone accountable for the kids, hold the parents. Growing up, my parents would not let us drink coke at supper during the week. It was either milk or water. Only on the weekend were we allowed coke.

Parents treating their child as a burden, instead of acting like parents, is the reason kids are fat.

hell, why legislate shite like that ? it is kind of hypocritical to do that while letting people puff away on cigarettes .. we know all of that is going to kill you eventually .. or at least contribute to your demise .. but if someone wants to smoke until their lungs look like the inside of coal miner's .. that is their choice and freedom .. if they want to suck down a 64 ounce coke as part of a high calorie meal that will cause heart problems down the road, that's their choice too ... whatever happened to individual choice and responsibility ??

Once the people allowed this abortion of a health care law to pass, the government feels it has the right to an opinion on people's diet. Once they legislate what we eat, how we travel and when we die, is there really anything else they will need to totally control us?

This shite right fricking here.

These bureaucratic cocksucking fricksticks are gonna take every single decision we have away before its over with. This country is imploding fast. If we don't see the fall of the USA, our kids sure as frick will.

Absolutely fricking ridiculous.

I rarely drink soda, but last night I had one with my meal. It was 32 oz. and I drank like 1/10th of it. It was really strange. No one was there to force me to drink all of it.

A lot of that has to do with the American diet being based heavily around carbs/starches. Fat is the big boogey man, but sugars (in all it's forms) is the bigger culprit when it comes to obesity.

Reread my post dumbfrick. I never said cokes are purely responsible. There are many factors. Life has changed since the early 70s and people in my part of America are clearly fatter for it.
