Does it seem to you there may be a new fire in belly of Les?

He and the whole staff seem to be working their tails off on the 2012/13 classes. Outstanding QB prospect from CA, rangy receiver from a JC, huge OL from IL. It's impressive. What say you? Please spare us the smart arse comments and use critical thinking.

I don't really think this involves critical thinking. It involves rational thinking. Something this board and the Rant severly lacks when something doesn't go the way you want it.
Most message board posters are reactionary and when emotions are low, 9 times out of 10, you're going to get se bullshite "the sky is falling! OMG LSU will never be the same after losing the NCG and Les can't recruit!".
Now as the smoke clears, people are starting to realize that you have to be weary of recruits playing and lying to you and even after losing a big game, it turns out that the next year looks even better than the year before where no one in the world
Was expecting what LSU did. No one. So it was a nice surprise.
After all is said and done, you're left with posts like the OP feeling like "oh, Les is finally stepping it up," as if he's never had the best interest in what kind of program he's running.
I know. tl;dr

I must say Prom...I'm proud of you for this one

combination of things, but yes, I think Les may have stepped up his game a little with Nicky laying the wood in the MNC game and on the recruiting trail year after year. Les is very competitive!
I have no idea really, but I can tell the staff are doing the work...

I think some new blood on the staff is helping, guys like Mccgauhey, Henry, and Raymond are hitting the road hard and making a name for themselves. Krags has also gone all over the country leaving no stone unturned trying to find a QB.

I think Henry, Raymond and McGauhey(sp) were great hires and a step up as recruiters. That combined with a great season last year, an appealing depth chart and the overall dominance of the SEC is allowing LSU to recruit very effectively.

quote:Matt Hayes and Sporting News picked LSU to win it all from before the start of the season and maintained that view until probably about halftime on date that won't be mentioned. The recruiting staff is doing a great job as of late. Hopefully, this momentum will continue. When two or three really good recruits sign on, it usually creates a snowball effect.
when no one in the world was expecting what LSU did. No one...

Yeah, about 2 people.
95% of people throughout the college football world had no idea or thought LSU would have the season they did. ESPECIALLY with that schedule.
2012 is the year everyone thought it would happen. Everyone still feels the same.

When have Les and his staff not brought in great recruiting classes?

Nice post. Accurate depiction of this board.
Its not so much that Miles and staff or working harder for recruits. They have changed their strategy quite a bit.
It appears as if more emphasis is being put on OOS blue chips, with more of a "wait and evaluate" approach on numerous high quality LA recruits.

The other one that picked preseason LSU to win it all was Jesse Palmer, and he did even better when then changed his drift before the NC game and picked Bama. Not bad!!

It's tapeworms, not fire

Thanks for the well considered opinons!

This class was in the works a long time before the NCG. From the outside looking in I'm sure it seems like the staff has turned up the heat, but this recent success isn't the result of three or four months of work.
It's a combination of many factors, but in my opinion I think the depth chart thinning out after this season is going a long way with a lot of recruits.

No matter what you think about Les,saying he isn't an elite recruiter is just fricking retarded

There are exceptions but the NCG loss did not have much of an effect, imo. Players realize that no school can "win them all." The guys who wanted to come to LSU watched that game just like we all did and saw what the problem was---a coaching staff playing with one hand tied behind its back because they couldnt trust their QBs. If anything, LSU's recruiting should improve greatly on the offensive side. Just my opinion.
