Guitar center is miserable. I will go in and play instruments but I refuse to actually buy one from there. And if I hear another 12 year old suffering through smoke on the water or another pimply 16 year old butchering eruption all the while playing his "brutal" ibanez with the gain all the way up in gonna kill some puppies

It's full of a buncha frickin hispters who think they know everything about guitars.

I've been playing for almost 15 years now and i'm not saying i'm an expert by any means, but i don't need some jackass to come and tell me about the all spruce top guitar i'm currently playing on.

They'd sell way more instruments if they just left you alone

and if when you walked up there with your stuff to buy and money in hand they checked you out instead of talking and playing with each other for 5 minutes

I've had worse at my local Sam Ash. I'd go to either place to buy strings or picks or whatever, but here in Florida you pay no sales tax when you buy your instruments online. I've heard it said that you can get the same deal from GC if you ask, but ... why should you have to ask?

Part of me has sympathy for these guys, but I guess they knew what they were getting into when they took the job.

I particularly feel for the dudes in the electronic music dept.,since every manufacturer now makes their products with a giant enticing red/green demo button that any child with reese cup covered fingers can walk up to and smash.

Everytime I walk by it's like a lawless, deafening arcade from hell.

I don't know what would be worse, that or the guy in the bass section that has to smile while listening to someone play Higher Ground for the 17,850th time.

The same goes for almost all guitar stores, but I do enjoy The Perfect Guitar. I got a killer deal on my Breedlove from there.

i thought they matched prices.
if so, and you take the time to find the lowest price and show them, there shouldn't be an issue.
are your local mom and pop stores less expensive?
i've never found it to be so.

why?
like most things, the experience is what you make of it. i've never had any issue with the people that work there or any of their policies. i'm wise enough not to go on a saturday afternoon. so, the people hacking away doesn't bother me.

I go to C & M in Lafayette, mainly because it's right there, but I've always liked the people.

Guitar Center gets a way worse rap than it really deserves imo. The Harahan location actually has a few knowledgeable salesmen. Sure, the majority of the employees are idiots but that's an issue at most big box stores. And If you bitch long enough to the right manager (Jon) he'll pretty much cave in on any issue you may have.

I love GC. I can buy all new heads for my kit for WAY lower than local stores.

Plus the guys usually working the drum section are either stoned or retarded so they leave you alone

I like Guitar Center, and I find their prices are extremely reasonable. Kids today have way more options and deals than we had sifting through the merch at Live Music, Zeagler's, or Michael Noto's back in the day.

I find the employees hit and miss. I've bought a strat and Martin there for really good deals.

One time I was was being helped at one of the desks when the employee told me to wait a minute. He then walked across the room to talk to a guy wailing away on a guitar. Wanted to talk to him about the song he was playing. I was like, WTF? Finally came back over after a couple of minutes to check me out.

Musicians are the worst employees.
