My friend and I are currently hosting a Tekkit 2.1.1 server. It's 50 slot, and it's hosted off a dedicated box with roughly a 90% up time.

If you're unfamiliar with tekkit servers, check out technicpack.net for more info. Basically its a collection of mods that includes Buildcraft, Industrial Craft, Equivilant Exchange, Red Power, etc.

The downside, tekkit servers are currently on MC patch 1.1 until all the mods in the pack get updated to the latest patch. You wont have to roll back your client, the technic pack launcher does that for you and you'll log in game using it.

IP is minecraft.clanhydra.com for anyone that wants to play.

Bookmarked.

I'll hop on later.

How empty is the map? Just you two guys? Plenty of room to build?

Counting myself, there's 7 of us building a community around an npc village we found far from spawn (I believe its south). Spawn itself is untouched, and the only structures not found in the village, is my setup north of town, and a house the admins gf thought would be "cute" made from a bunch of spawned in items that can be found by itself far north of mine.

Check out technicpack.net

You'll have to download the technic pack launcher and install the java version they have on their site's main page in the left side panel.

Once you have both installed, start up the technic launcher, select Tekkit from the drop down menu, log into your minecarft account, and the launcher will install all the mods for you and launch the game.

It will create a seperate folder from your minecraft folder, so you can still play technic pack alongside minecraft 1.2.6

These mods add SO much more to the game that I cant play vanilla anymore and have fun

Industrial craft is all about generating electricity using lava/wind/water/nuclear power to power machines like macerators, compressors, electric furnaces, mass fabricators, etc

Buildcraft is all about pumping things. Using oil, steam, or redstone powered pumps and pipes to move items and liquids around the world.

Equivilant exchange is an alchemist's wet dream.

And redpower adds redstone circuits, lamps, and 10+ pages of custom blocks that arent block shaped.

-324.96, +1320.66

coordinates for the village. We've tried to make all our houses resemble npc houses to try and keep the look, but some members' building skills are... well... "make a huge cube/tower out of cobblestone" bad.

My house is the one made mostly of brick/wood/marble. The bunkhouse and workshop I also put together.

So far, the server is filling up nicely. We have had 30 people join the server since posting this.
On average, we have 6+ people, not including myself, everytime I log onto it.

What I didnt realize, was that by posting this on TD, anyone anywhere that googled tekkit minecraft servers would see this post (thank you TD for the advertisement ) , and it appears thats where we got a handful of the players from.

The good, most of the new people set up shop 8k blocks away from spawn, and despite the influx and now 200mb larger world file, the server still has zero lagg issues.

the bad, we havent implemented a anti griefing system yet; however, technic pack mods do allow for some rather clever ideas to help with that...

-Personal Safes: Only you can open or destroy them.

-Teleport Pipes: Flick one lever, and you can teleport all your items to a back up chest hidden somewhere else, and pump them back as need be.

-Alchemical bags: If you have a Diamond, you can make a bag 4x the size of a chest to hold in your hand. And there is one in every color you can use. Store all your items in it, and if you lose it, make another one and it all comes back.
