Consolidate all the freaking universities

That makes too much sense.

Simply put, I know politics will never allow this to happen, but a plan really needs to be developed, presented as a "if this was done" type situation to at least have it in the minds of people so that you can gradually work it to become reality.

It can work by having universities in Baton Rouge, Hammond, Lafayette, New Orleans and Shreveport (or between Shreveport and Monroe) and have a community college system in place for other areas.

Southern and BRCC could be consolidated. You can keep McNeese in LC.

LSU always takes the spotlight here, but from my experience there, I would say Northwestern is the best school in Louisiana. I would argue that we should make LSU the feeder school and Northwestern the flagship

it wouldn't hurt for LSU to be tougher to get into. And the library and the quad would be more peaceful

The State was too busy throwing money at Tom Benson to worry about higher education.

Did somebody say football party?

I agree that it wouldn't hurt for LSU to be tougher to get into. But without a nice strong school reputation, I don't care how hard it is to get into...people won't want to go here

ow about the freaking government?

education and healthcare are always the first to get cut in this state. it was written that way in the state constitution. it's awful, and it needs to be changed. this state values roads more than education and health. it's awful.

just like the SUNO debacle they'll just scream racism to make the problem go away, despite SUNO having a pathetic graduation rate of like 5% or something absurd. The president of the school even said "its not our job to get them to graduate"

the problem with Louisiana, moreso than any other state i've ever seen, is that people do NOT want to leave their home. it's pathetic.

Meanwhile the athletic department made like $15-20M in excess funds in '09-10 alone. Hard pressed for cash? Ask your rich arse son to help out. Athletics does not exist without academics.

"If this holds, you will see a generational change," said LSU Chancellor Mike Martin. "You will set back the state's flagship institution at least two decades, and it may never recover."

It goes like this.

LSU: Here's the budget we want.
State of Louisiana: Wait, don't you think you should wait until we tell you how much money we have available?
LSU: No, were LSU.
SoLA: Yeah, well we don't have that kind of funding available. You'll have to justify this kind of budget to the state.
LSU: Why? Were LSU?
SoLA: Well see, the economy is still in a recession. Revenues are down, uncertainty reigns, and the state simply cannot afford to continue to write a blank check to the University. You'll have to come up with more efficient ways to make do.
LSU: Okay, we'll start by using our funds to run a "sky is falling" campaign against the state through negative ads. Then we'll send out all kinds of negative press. Finally, we'll go ahead and pass the cost off to the students by raising tuition, maybe cut a few lower level people just to show how bad it is. How's that sound?
SoLA:

there is nothing wrong with it. i'm more referring to staying in the same city. i realize not everyone can afford it.

i guess my point was more that this state has a problem with people staying put and not venturing out to get new ideas, see new things, etc., to be able to bring them back into the state when they return. LA is stuck in it's own, old ways. it's a serious problem, IMO.

I see no difference in these two schools.

All we need in terms of major colleges(public school obviously) are LSU, ULL, SLU, ULM/Tech, UNO. After that...who really gives a crap.
