Watch this catch with the bases loaded one out in the ninth inning with the score tied at 5. If that falls the season is over.

Why is the season over if it falls? Would they not make their conference tournament?

If it falls and you lose that game, we'd have to win the conference tourney to get in a regional. We are locked into 3rd place but ECU who is currently 5th has a much better RPI and all of the projections have them in. We did win our series with them on the road, so that may help.

They'll make the C-USA tourney. I guess more proper wording would have been it saved their hopes for an at-large bid. In reality though I dont think anyone is expecting them to beat Rice or UCF in the tournament.

That makes sense. Thanks for clearing it up.

We have beaten Rice once and though UCF swept us we lost by a total of 4 runs. We can play with either one, you never know what can happen on any given day.

A couple of close wins against a 200+ RPI team isn't doing much good. Tulane is a bubble team...better win 2 or 3 in the conference tournament.

Ofcourse it isnt. A loss to a 200 RPI team however would completely take them out of contention for an at-large bid.

Yes and as stated above they would be off the bubble with a loss to Marshall.

I have a bad feeling that no matter if the wave swept msrshsll this weekend or got swept - they still have to win the cusa tourney to get into regionals.

And I would have loved to hear graff's call of that catch

I thought Tulane was the home team? Would the umps just end the game right there or let Tulane bat in the bottom of the 9th?

Wave had no hits since the 5th inning and bottom of order coming up. Missing Cannizaro and Boudreaux really changes the lineup and scoring potential.

I think a couple wins in the CUSA tourny gets the Wave in. Will finish only one game behind second place in the conference...

Well NOW the Wave likely has to win the CUSA tournament. Getting mercy ruled by one of the worst teams in the nation in a must win game? I follow Tulane a lot and this has been the MO of this program over the last 4 yrs. They shrink in the big games no matter who the opponent is. The talent level is OBVIOUSLY not what it once was but there is still enough talent on this team to where they should be a lock for a regional. This may not be a top 25 program anymore but SURELY it's a program that can make a regional most seasons.
This will likely be the 4th straight season where Tulane doesn't make a regional. As a Tulane grad, if you had told me when i was in Omaha in 2005 that the program would have fallen to this level then I would have said you were nuts. I'm not saying Jones needs to be gone but what I will say is that over the past few seasons we have seen just how valuable top flight assistants such as Schlosnagle, Kingston, etc were to Jones and the program over the years. A former player once told me that Jones gets so worked up in the big games that his peers refer to him as 'Choke Jones'. The assistants he had used to be able to help calm him down a bit but without them this team seems to get too uptight and shrinks in big games.
