| American Express Gold Card (Posted on 5/16/12 at 9:59 am)
I am no OT baller, so forgive me for not yet having an American Express Black Card. I am, however, considering getting myself an Amex Gold as it seems like a solid idea to go with Amex considering their reputation for customer service, better rewards, etc. So is it worth it for a $125 annual fee (waived first year)? I have never had a card with a hefty annual fee, so this concept is new to me. I encourage any and all feedback. TIA

I dont have one but that may be a thing you could call in and have waived several times? I enjoy the haggle with businesses.

Chase Sapphire Preferred FTW Learn about it. Credit card game is where it's at.

I hear ya, I am familiar with the various sites where I can do research and whatnot. Care to share why the Chase Sapphire is better than the Amex?

Crazy benefits and 1 to 1 transfer to all the mileage programs, which Amex no longer has. Chase is making a run at AMEX's "gold standard" high-$ clients. See, e.g. the Sapphire Preferred, United Mileage Plus Club Card. It's also a metal card -- some new technology. If you're like me, and your bills are primarily food and transportation, Sapphire Preferred is where it's at. Get a free year then haggle a second free year because you spent so much money on the card. For reference, I have the United MP Club, Sapphire Preferred, and Amex Blue. I had the Amex Gold but downgraded--I never pay yearly fees.

Wouldnt the AMEX blue be a better card if most of your expenses include this. 6% cash back at the grocery and 3% back on gas.

I'd upgrade to the Platinum card as the extra benefits are well worth it. I don't think the Gold card is worth the price. In the Gold price range try the AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest card if you travel.

I have the gold card and have never had any issues. Not sure what kind of feedback you want, the rewards are decent, there is no limit, customer service is excellent. I think you get a lot of reward points for just signing up. I fly a lot so I'm always racking up crazy points and getting discounts on flights.

i have the gold, i don't want to drop it cause i like the longevity i've built with this card. I've been considering getting amex blue and use that primarily and having both.

I love calling the chase preferred line for my chase amazon card. If y'all haven't done so before, use gethuman.com.

I like cash, but oftentimes the rewards (like being able to buy a cross-country United ticket with 25k miles) often outweigh the cash. So I stick to miles. I fly United about twice a year and rarely pay for the ticket.

I meant my wife and I do. So that's 2 roundtrip tickets a year... but with the Sapphire Preferred you can use the miles on any airline. Also, the Amex Miles aren't bad, but they don't transfer 1:1 to United or Southwest, which are the two airlines I fly the most. I like to use my Amex miles around Christmas and buy gift cards for people when they are having sales. Moral of the story: get Amex and a good rewards card and get best of both worlds.

I actually like my Chase Freedom. I probably get back a little over $1000 a year. I fly pretty often for work but it gets booked through coporate and I don't get any pooints. Otherwise I go with the Saphire.
