I get to go fishing Old River with my cousin on Thursday. I have no experience out there and am hoping the OB can help me out. Bass will be targeted, but we may pursue sacalait if we completely strike out.

Any reports or suggestions? Any info is much appreciated.

ETA: Trip postponed, possibly cancelled.

Never been but my buddy fished it last year and caught over 100.
I think they used crank baits.
Good Luck...Let me know how you do.
I may fish it later this year.

Its rising right now so some will say the bite will be slow. Crank baits off of trees and if you can find flooded timber spinner baits

It's definitely not an ideal time to fish since the MS River is rising, but like others have said, crankbaits aimed at piers and cypress trees will probably be your best bet.

Thanks for the suggestions. Fortunately, crankbaits and spinners are right in my wheelhouse. Then again, whose wheelhouse aren't they in?

I'll update this post with pics of my new state record after the outing.

My white perch bite is over FWIW. I need to remember this for next year. Post-spawn through mid-May.

I kept detailed records last year based on river levels. Not only on bass but what I saw the sac fisherman doing. One spot that I had that was hot last year when the river was falling @ 36' in July to August didn't turn on this year till it hit 33' a few weeks ago. Hoping with the water up again it will be back on

Up until a few years ago I never used them. Of course all I did was pond fish

I'd love to have something to report, but haven't gone. If I ever can get out there I will post a report, but we rescheduled for Tuesday and now I can't make that one. So it's not looking good.

Hopefully we can make it happen.
