Angels fire hitting coach Mickey Hatcher

Los Angeles promoted hitting coach Jim Eppard from Triple-A Salt Lake to replace Hatcher, who had been with the Angels since 2000.
A 15-year veteran as a player, Hatcher was the Angels' hitting coach during their only World Series title run in 2002.
General manager Jerry Dipoto says the Angels have underachieved offensively. Los Angeles has scored just 134 runs in 37 games this season, ranking 22nd in the majors, while getting shut out a club-record eight times already.
Albert Pujols has been a disappointment to date, batting .212 with one homer.

Sad that the Angels decided they needed to let Hatcher go to try and rattle the cage. He's a good baseball guy and has been around for a long time. It's an obbvious move to somehow put pressure on Mike Scioscia - who's locked up through 2018 - and "send a message" to the team that they are underperforming and heads will roll if need be.
