Have to drop family off to the New Orleans airport on a week day. They have never been to New Orleans, It is one adult and a teenager from Colorado. (this will be there only stop in the city while visiting us on the North Shore.)

Looking to stop somewhere with decent New Orleans atmosphere, not overly expensive and still gives them the "taste of New Orleans."

Was thinking like Red Fish Grill? Any other suggestions?

This will be a tough call given the route from Mandy to the port. Take West Esplanade towards the 17th street canal and hit one of the restaurants in Bucktown.

Do not worry about the route. I do not mind leaving early and making a detour.

(sorry - I should have clarified that in the original post)

I kind of want them to see the french quarter, even if it was for such a short time.

Galatoire's is a little too expensive and too nice for what we are looking for. Good suggestion under difficult circumstances.

Make sure you take them to the quarter. This is what visitors want to see. Take them to Central Grocery for muffs or Port of Call. If seafood is a must take them for shrimp or oyster poboys at Johnny's. These three are essential, cheap, New Orleans food experiences that will take you to the location they want to go and see.

Country Club after a windshield tour of the quarter. Easy parking, easy return to I-10 and the airport.

You can be casual at Mr. B's and there is a parking lot next to the back of the restaurant from which you can enter the restaurant. Might be a good idea for a reservation if time is limited. Go early and then walk around the Quarter from there.
