Wanting to put in a waiver request for Alex Gordon (Someone dropped him for no good reason). I'm #2 in priority, and should get him (#1 is not very active).

Following guys are candidates to drop:

Ackley
Rafael Soriano
Lucas Duda

I'm thinking Soriano is useless to hold on to, and may at most be in line for 4-6 saves the rest of the season (barring an injury to Robertson). Thoughts? You guys think he'll share save oppy with Robertson?

Why don't you wait and see what happens before dropping him?

Drop Ackley or Duda, Gordon is way better than them.

I would drop any of those three in a heartbeat for Gordon. Who you should drop really depends on your team needs. But definitely drop one for him.

If Soriano is the closer on one of the better teams in baseball, you don't just drop him.

Drop Ackley first, he hasn't done shite.

I'm skeptical that he picks up saves though..so wanted to get everyone's thoughts on if he truly is in a timeshare with Robertson, or whether Robertson will get the bulk of the saves.

Also, there's an innings cap at 1100 so I like the middle relievers (Adams, Pestano) to help the peripherals. I'm in 2nd to last in steals as well so I'd like to keep Campana

That's a big if. I think most rational people expect Robertson to be the guy. But to answer your question, I would drop a closer for a bat. Saves become available all season long through injuries, demotions, trades, etc. Quality bats are harder to come by.

Unless Joe Girardi posts here, you aren't going to get an answer from anyone that knows. Which is why I'd wait and see.

Yea, wish I could but Gordon is FA as of tonight. I may drop Duda, since Gordon should provide similar production from a fantasy perspective (with a few SBs)

That remains to be seen

A smart person would keep the closer and just drop another shitty, expendable player. Like Dustin Ackley.

That would depend on his team needs like I said.

I'd drop Duda and keep Ackley for a little depth at 2B.

I've never seen a team that couldn't sacrifice a shitty bench player instead of a closer

You have closers bouncing around your free agent pool in your league?

No, but in case you haven't noticed a new closer has been named almost everyday this season. And in a league where Alex Gordon has been dropped, there is at least one terrible manager.

Nope. That said, ~50% closers who began spring training as closer (Or favorite to close) are no longer closing right now, so I think if I'm diligent enough, there will be other opportunities to pick up guys.

As it is, I'm currently in 3rd in saves right now. I started the season with Jim Johnson, Joe Nathan, and Andrew Bailey, then picked up Casilla and Broxton, so just recently traded away Nathan and Johnson to address some offensive needs.

I should hold tight around 4-5th in saves until Bailey returns (which is fine with me, given my improvement in other cats with the trades I made)

Those were my thoughts when posting this thread. Closers have come and gone like clockwork this season
