Adolf better have the goods on the BAD Saints

Topic is on Fire

We'd best hope that lies aren't construed to try and make Adolf look good either. It seems we are now hearing of misconstrued testimony. Imagine that - not a real court of law! Ding, Ding, Ding...the light is going on around the media circles.

Somewhere in the 50,000 pages of documents related to the Saints bounty program better be some compelling evidence that it was much more organized and way more vicious than anything the NFL had ever seen. Otherwise, the punishment he's doled out already has exceeded the crime, and the commissioner's credibility on two of the signature issues of his tenure - player safety and the integrity of the games - will suffer a hit he can barely afford. Because if the players believe Goodell is more interested in burnishing his tough-guy reputation and insulating the league from further liability on safety concerns than he is in genuinely pursuing their best interests, look out. All the pushback from all the previous disciplinary cases combined will seem like a nudge

He won't suffer a hit he can't afford - he'll be through. This had better be worse than anything ever in the NFL because the punishment sure is.
Here's the thing though...the NFL isn't law. They can pretty much do what they want, right?

Not according to the CBA. This is where Goodell's getting bogged down. The coaches were easy because they're under the by-laws, not a CBA. The players are a completely different situation. It's clear he didn't think this through or anticipate the push-back.

Looks like Goddell expected the players to roll over and play dead lie the coaches did!

Honestly, I don't understand why the teams would agree to let Goodell make the call on punishment anyway. The teams should sit down and draft a rule book with set punishments for rules that are broken.

1. You get caught having a pay for play system. (team penalties listed here, coaches penalties listed here, players penalties listed here)
2. You get caught having a pay to injure or harm system. (team penalties listed here, coaches penalties listed here, players penalties listed here)
3. You video tape a team's practice (team penalties listed here, coaches penalties listed here.

****In the case that an event occurs that more than 2/3s of the teams agrees is egregiously negative, but not in this rule book, the teams will then vote on the punishment and add said rule and punishments to the rule book.

Goodell should be there to enforce the owners, teams, coaches, and players rules. Not to create them out of thin air and provide random punishments. The players effed this one up in the new CBA, and the owners and coaches also screwed this up. It needs to be fixed, ASAP.

This isn't going to end like you want it to. Saints will have to adhere to his policies and the players will have to serve their suspensions.

I know it is fun to imagine that the saints are the innocent victims of an angry tyrant who has no evidence but some of you need to get real.

Do you really think Goodell and the NFL would have done all of this without ANY evidence? Come on guys. This is one of those things where you just take your lumps and move on.

In short: not going to end well

Well, I don't think the Saints are innocent victims. They were running an illegal (albeit common) pay for performance system. It's just a far cry from what the NFL has been asserting; that the Saints were targeting players for injury. I'm sure they have evidence, but I feel they've been misrepresenting the nature of what they have. You can look to Hargrove's deceleration as an example. They spun it as Hargrove admitting to the existence and participation in a "bounty" program, and that was a load of horse shite.

I think the evidence I think is marginal and circumstanial (a lot of he said she said). This is ALL ABOUT the NFL protecting themselves against future lawsuits. The NFL doesn't really care about player safety. They care about not getting sued.

I said a while back when the first report came out that in this day in age you have to have clear evidence to punish or prosecute someone. Goodell and the NFL have yet to offer up said evidence and its going to get real ugly real fast for them if they dont soon.

Which is why the Rog carefully charged them with "off field" transgressions, to try to circumvent the arbitrator as required by the new CBA. Any arbitrator that hears this is going to want to see all evidence before they even get off the ground.

Heres where Im a little fuzzy. The NFL employs very smart people that I'm sure had this entire process mapped out, especially by the way they handled it. I dont know that the league didnt anticipate the pushback, but I wonder if its straight up arrogance that the NFL thought they would just get away with it.

I don't take Greg Williams, CSP, of Mickey Loomis' silence as any admission of guilt. They don't have due process that the players have access to, and they have no advocate thru the union to defend them. Therefore, just because Coach Payton hasn't called out Goodell doesn't mean he agrees with anything. I've said it before, a coaches union will probably come out of this, ESPECIALLY if this blows up and its discovered that the league manipulated evidence.

The author of that column is clearly just a Sainttard. There is no way than any columnist from a respected, international news service would ever take such a stand...

/retards who go A2M on Goodell because they let the media think for them
