On Mike and Mike this morning. NFLPA has filed a grievance against the NFL to a system arbitrator, Steven Burbank. One of the specifics was, there is an exception in the CBA that actions taken before August 4 2011 are immune from ruling on by Goodell, because there was no CBA ratified prior to that date. Also Challenged Goodell's authority to discipline players, Art Shell and Ted Catrell should be disciplining players. From what I heard was that the NFLPA is saying that this is not an "off-field conduct" issue.

Listening to Mike and Mike. Sounds like we have a good shot at not losing our guys. I know it's early but this would be a huge shot against Goodell.

Good. It is ridiculous that Goodell gets to decide the penalties and hear the appeal. That is bad for everyone in the NFL, not just the Saints.

Way to keep positive I think we have around 4 mil in cap space even with Vilma and Smith on the roster. *citation needed

As long as he's around for practices, it really doesn't matter when we sign him.

This is a good point. What governs the commissioner's authority on events prior to the current CBA?

From what i heard was that this issue should have been handled by the rules the two aforementioned persons instead of Goodell. NFLPA is challenging that this is an off field conduct issue, Which is under Goodell's purview.

The whole idea of these huge penalties for a bounty program is stupid.

They played football and there aren't these cart off hits that can be proven to be associated with this. If the Saints had been the most penalized defense and constantly fined over the time period I could understand. They weren't though.

I think the coaching suspensions were overboard, but if Goodell is really that pissed about being lied to then fine. The lying is the only issue IMO. The bounty program itself is really a silly issue to focus on.

The way I read it Goodell is screwed on 2 accounts.

1) He has no authority to act on the players for anything they did before August 4th, 2011.

2) By his own worded official statements he refeed to non contract bonuses being why he suspended the players. Referring to how it cuts against the CBA and fairness or some shite, so to me it sounds like we have a damn strong chance to win this thing and slam Goodell real hard.

I'd say it's to the point now that many of us are expecting anything to happen. Nothing really is a surprise anymore. After the shock of this off-season, it's gradually become easier to deal with. We are all super anxious for the season. It has been a bumpy ride, but I think I speak for all of us when I say that this is the most anticipated and important Saints season we may ever witness.

It's nice to see the NFL get a grievance filed against them.
We've been a punching bag for everybody the whole damn offseason.
