Personal Capital - Mint like Web based Financial Program

Thoughts? I just started messing with it. Supposed to have more robust investment tracking and seems to do everything that Mint does.
I think doing asset allocation as some weird block thing is different/strange, not necessarily worse than a Pie chart.
Figured some may want to mess with this as a Mint alternative, especially the investment portion of their finances.

I will definitely try this out.

I kinda like it. Very similar but the investment area might make me switch. Very clean interface.
One problem I have is some of my loan accounts aren't loading, but that has occurred before with Mint so I'll give it some more time.
Other thing is bills and bill reminders. Maybe im dumb but that didn't seem so simple.

cool, is there a way to check and see if they support all my accounts/banks before I sign up?
The main culprit with mint for me now is that they don't support TIAA Direct yet.

I just did a search for TIAA and all I got was:
TIAA-CREF with website: www.tiaa-cref.org
And
TIAA-CREF Trust Company with website: www.tiaa-cref.org/trust/index.html
Didn't see TIAA DIRECT, they might not support the web based programs like this.

As always, it better have the right security verification.

RSA and Norton Verisign secured. Apparently more than Mint.com's security.
ETA: I may just not be used to it yet, but I will have to give the overall edge to Mint since it has better Budgeting/Bill tools it seems. Personal Capital has the edge with its Investment features.

Hey everyone, I work over at Personal Capital. Happy to answer any questions/pass along any feedback you'd like to share. If there's anything you'd want to see included I can pass the information to the Product Manager.
Thanks!
Joe
Thanks!

So, I'm assuming you signed up so that you could post this?
That's pretty aggressive. I respect it.
I signed up a week ago and loaded all of my info into it. The investments portion blows mint.com completely out of the water, and I'm going to keep it around just for that reason, but the budgeting function is one of the best parts about mint, so I'll probably keep that as my go to site.
ETA: With one exception, the drop down boxes for spending categories are infuriatingly small.
Since you work there, what's the company's angle? Are they trying to get use it to get into the online financial advising market?
As a suggestion: I think it would be pretty easy to rip off what pageonce does and track rewards points. I think that would add a significant value to your site without having to go head to head with Mint.com. Pageonce is cool, but the site layout is so awful that I don't use it. You guys really have the interface done well.
ETA2: Personal Capital’s mission is to deliver personalized wealth management for the internet age, and shift the balance of power from Wall Street to you.
Our core service is free to all clients, and if you choose, we can build and manage a personalized investment strategy for less than 1% in management fees. That's less than the fee charged for the average mutual fund! There is no obligation to enroll in our portfolio management service.

Haha yes indeed, I saw the conversation and just wanted to help if I could.
I've passed along the info on the drop down boxes; they're going to try and get it into our next update (I'd guess 30 days or so unless we hit some speed-bumps). Just so I'm clear, are you using the web interface or the iPad?
I mentioned the rewards points, it's actually something we could incorporate but honestly you're the first person to mention it. I put it on the list, but without the demand it probably won't make it in for a while.
Thanks for the kind words on the interface! To your point we don't really have budgeting tools; investing is really our focus so we're spending as much energy as possible to make that as relevant and useful as possible.
As a company we actually do offer financial advice; not sure we quite fit into the full on "online financial advisor" market with FutureAdvisor or Wealthfront though. Our advisory services are completely optional, but for those who opt in we don't try to replace the human relationship; rather we leverage technology to make the relationship as effortless for consumers as possible (think Facetime meetings with your advisor, access to performance/results anytime through the dashboard etc.).
Hopefully that helps, happy to clarify as needed.

I agree that the drop down menu is pretty small on my PC as well.
Also, I mentioned the Bill features earlier in this thread. This probably goes with the budgeting, but it appears the only bills Personal Capital recognizes is bills attached to connected accounts. Is that correct?
Another thing that isn't a feature and maybe I should direct it to support is that my ETF portfolio value isn't correct and slightly off by about 75 cents which doesn't make much sense since the ETF values are readily available at any financial site and my connected account is correct.
This is only working with $1,000 so that difference may increase to an unacceptable amount if the error grows proportionally.
I have to say its unfortunate that you all aren't going to include more budgeting tools. I would fully switch over because of the clean interface/investing tools if it did include all those things that make mint so useful on a daily basis (and therefore more likely a user will eventual use whatever the site is selling) but I understand you all have a certain market in mind and that is your gameplan.
Thanks for signing up and being aggressive in learning about your user base. That is good stuff.

Thanks Teddy. I took a look and definitely think you're both right; can be pretty cumbersome filtering through all those options in such a small space (having the product team address it; I'd guess 30 days or so).
Is there a private message system on tiger droppings? If you're comfortable sending me the email you registered with (either posting or private messaging), I can elevate with customer support and have them reach out. I could try to guess what's going on there, but they'll have much more insight.
Also a sidenote (and mini PSA)for everyone, we have a referral program going on right now; if you use the widget from the dashboard (upper right) to refer a friend and they aggregate their accounts, you get 10 bucks and so do they. I'd post a link but I know most forums don't really like that; just let me know if you have trouble finding it from the dashboard. No pressure obviously, but if you're planning on sharing with a friend, might as well make a few bucks while doing it!
I'm not getting emails when you guys respond, but I'll do my best to keep up/help out if you post any other questions or feedback.

Impressed that a guy from the company created an account solely to respond to this thread. I may give this a try now simply for appreciating his extra effort.

Web interface. I haven't downloaded the app yet.

I'm certainly not upset about it. I appreciate you considering it, I was just trying to throw some ideas out there for the time you took to find, sign up and post on this site.

I completely understand, and it's obviously working for you. I don't know what your strategy is, but with just the investment side, I'm less likely to be a daily visitor to the site. That may not be your goal, just providing input.

I'm honestly surprised more companies don't do this within reason. Obviously you can't use this to publish advertising, but to help answer questions about products seems like a no brainer and good customer surport.

Agree completely. Excellent strategy. I can foresee this being a major marketing tool.

This is done quite frequently on other forums like fatwallet

Thanks for the kind words everyone!
I can't give any details yet, but there's some pretty awesome new features coming out next Tuesday (5/8) so keep an eye out. I'm (selfishly) looking forward to using it myself so definitely take a look and let me know what you think.

Jafahr - what is the name of the iPhone app?
Posted on 5/6/12 at 1:55 am to GeismarGeauxer
If you go to personal capital. Com they have a link to the app. Seems to be under the same name, Personal Capital.
