I don't really understand why the Georiga dome needs to be replaced. Its only been around for 20 years. The fricking bonds aren't even paid off and won't be for another 3-8 years from what I read.

Dang. The Georgia Dome can't be that old.

Open air was a terrible idea for the awful Atlanta fans. The last thing the falcons need is more fans not showing up because it's too hot, wet, cold, dry etc.

Opened September 6, 1992. So its only been open for 19+ years. Outside of not having all the bells and whistles of a modern day stadium....there's no reason that it needs to be demolished or replaced 20 years later.

unless you're a fan or in the city paying taxes why do ya care?

Its stupid. I feel bad for the people that do live there. The taxpayers will get stuck with paying a percentage of this when they're still paying for the Georiga dome which will be demolished.

I just heard on ESPN radio that they want to build a new $1 billion stadium right next to the existing Georgia Dome. So, there would be 2 75000 seat football stadiums right next to each other.

and they'll demolish the GA Dome if it does have at least a retractable roof. then maybe we can have some better tailgating

i'm sure if the city doesn't want it then it'll be scrapped
ETA: honestly this is better than arthur getting an open air stadium, then we would have to keep the dome. this eliminates the need. and now we can bid for super bowls more and possibly the new NCAA playoffs in addition to already having the SECCG, bowls, and tourney games

so the Superdome is 17 years older than the Ga. Dome and still sons it by that much?

The State of Louisiana got a break with Katrina damaging the Superdome. It had to be basically rebuilt on the inside. They just need to put some bigger jumbotrons up in dat biotch.
yeah it would be stupid to build an open air stadium in ATL.

FWIW, Tech's 55,000 seat stadium is only 2 miles away. Maybe they're preparing for another Olympic bid.
I wish more cities would renovate what they have like New Orleans did. The Georgia Dome is in a perfect location with hotels, CNN Center, Philips Arena, GWCC, and two MARTA stops. They are also continuing to attract events like the Final Four next year. There is no reason to spend a billion dollars to build something new.

Thats what I'm thinking. The Georgia Dome is still a feasible NFL stadium and its in a very good location. It seems like the more responsible and economical decision would be to strip it down and completely renovate it.
The Saints, Packers and Chiefs have done this and are essentially playing in brand new stadiums.

If they van prove how it wont be completely detrimental to the taxpayer, then I'm all for it.

This is what I'm saying. I attended the LSU/UNC game and this years SECCG against UGA. I stayed at the Omni hotel at CNN Center. The Georgia Dome could use an upgrade like the Superdome on the interior. No need to build a completely new stadium imo. It's still in very good shape. Seems like a waste of money to build a new stadium.

Only thing better than a new stadium with a retractable roof would be if the citizens of Doraville would quit being bitches, and let Arthur build it on the old GM plant site. You'd have sellouts every game and an awesome tailgate setup. It's a pain in the arse driving all the way to the ghetto of Atlanta to watch a Falcons game when 90% of Falcon fans live outside the perimeter.

I dont understand why they cant just istal a retractable roof.
Gut the interior. Expand the concourses.
But dont build a completely new stadium right next to the current one....

Yeah, stadiums in the suburbs aren't in style anymore.
