| So what would be the rules/guidelines of a Religion & Philosophy Board? (Posted on 4/20/12 at 6:17 pm)
Certain religious topics were just not a good fit for the Poli Board and the OT...I am fine with exploring a Religion & Philosophy Board...but I would like for there to be strong guidelines established upfront to prevent the recent trend that I have been seeing in religious threads...so, let me hear your thoughts...

I would think the general board rules that are already in place should be good enough.

I dont think you will be able to prevent the trend besides banning the ones that give you trouble. A thread started on a new board would give you just as much trouble as one on the OT. JMO, Cluckster

Would you have to do something to moderate the amount of "pray for my _____" threads? because those could basically overrun the board flaming and deliberate attacks on people's personal beliefs would have to result in suspension, i would guess

I am ok with prayer threads being on the OT...I wouldn't want them on this new board.

Deletion of obvious flame topics like the Was Jesus Gay thread along with tough no troll enforcement. Threads must have clear and concise topics so the same 3 things are not discussed in any religion thread as they are now, and official threads for general main topics like evolution. JMO.

Given the subject matter, and how posters feel about it, I would treat the board similar to the OT. Posters and threads should get a good bit of latitude and Admins should only come in on things that are blatant rule violations (existing rules should suffice). Otherwise, treat it as an "Enter at your own risk" and let it go for the most part.

Kind of like with the recruiting board where topics with just the player's name and no school/position/class aren't okay, you cant have a page of 20 page topics with confusing thread titles all talking about the same philosophical religious issues.

Its going to be really hard not to flame. I really enjoy the discussion here, but sometimes it does get out of hand. People have a wide variety of viewpoints, from Atheist to Christian Atheist(real look it up, lol), to Agnostic, to Christian , to evangelical. Then there is a lot of in between. Its going to be hard, because its a topic people are very set in and very quick to defend their viewpoints.

The current rules prevent flaming. But with religious discussions people assume flaming can be the norm. I'm cool with flaming/trolling for the record. Here is what I would propose: Serious Rules 1. Thread titles raise specific philosophical/religious topics/questions. 2. Those specific topics/questions are addressed in the thread 3. The allowance of scheduled formal debate threads containing their own set of rules (ie two-four posters named in the OP and they are only allowed to post official responses) 4. No blatant disrespect shown to another unless rule 6 kicks in 5. If there is currently an active topic on a particular subject, anchor the rest Fun Rules 6. I think it should be ok to call other posters tards etc. because, quite frankly, in these discussions those names can be warranted 7. Can have picture only threads that rile up the other religion 8. IM threads allowed

Like somebody else said, the basic guidelines pretty much cover it. The enforcement of the guidelines is what would give you trouble IMO. Personal attacks are against the guidelines and account for most of the posts in some of those threads. Some of them have been very good discussions though.

Basically there should be a disclaimer: No flaming allowed but if you are easily offended stay away. Some discussion, while truly legitimate, could offend certain people. For instance, questions on what someone may deem to be weird practices: Lord's Supper, Holy Underwear. ETC. The people posting on the board need to get over being offended so easily.

True, but I think the point is to not clutter up other boards. I think this is a really good idea. Especially the Philosophy part.

Chicken wouldn't have this problem to deal with in the first place if that happened. Where's the fun in that?

I can't say I'm in favor of this board, as I honestly don't think it would be a good idea. Religion threads worked on PT because of the users who frequented that board, and didn't work on the OT for precisely the same reason. The few threads per week on PT that dealt with religion simply worked. While I enjoy reading and occasionally participating in such threads, I don't think creating another board to host such discussions is really warranted. I think there is a much greater need for a board dealing with a different, previously proposed topic...but that's for another thread...

Yeah I know. But a person entering an entire board and not liking what he sees is his fault more so than him being on a separate board and having to dodge questionable subject lines
