Anybody who can hit for average like this kid can play in the MLB.

My question, is what position? He doesn't have plus speed or power, so one would have to assume OF is out of the question in the majors.

2b maybe? Or will a team take an OF who will hit near .300 and have less than 7 HRs in a season?

My guess would be LF.

Yeah, but they might make him move to 2B like they did with JC Holt.

I guess he can be like a Tony Gwynn type player and bat 2nd and hit for very high average.

Why would OF be out of the question, Have you seen some of the scrubs that play left and right field in the majors. As long as he can hit they will let him play left but he better hit over 300 because he doesn't have enough pop.

JC holt was fast as hell and more athletic than Ryhmes, he was a good CF.

dont see him playing 2B.

He'll prolly be in LF.

I'm pretty sure he's actually a solid infielder. If I'm not mistaken, i believe he played SS for LSU Eunice when he was there. I think he may end up being a first round pick, especially is he stays one more year. I think he'll project as either LF, 2B, or maybe 3B. I think the only reason he's not in the infield is because our infield is pretty stacked compared to the majority of other schools.

The DH is usually reserved for someone with a little more power, no?

agreed no chance at 1st round pick. He is a one tool player. That tool is amazing though.

absolutely a chance

I forget the guys name, but a few years back Georgia had that 2nd baseman that was very similar to Rhymes. Not very fast, average college infielder, but he hit 450+. He was a top 5 pick.

Great college player, will never sniff the show.

No power, average speed at best, average fielder/shitty arm. Being a great pure hitter can only take you so far.

fielding, arm strength, power, can all be taught or worked on in a weight room. You can't teach that kind of bat, he'll be up there at some point.

Are you talking about Gordon beckham?

Eta; the highest I've heard anyone say Raph would go is the 6th round.

Sadly, this seems like the most likely case.

That's him, he hit a shite load of homeruns, but everybody did with those composite bats. I think he's very similar to Rhymes at the plate.

Gordon Beckham led the NCAA with 26 homers

ETA and he was a SS. What a terrible comparison
