...same people who got Johnny the job are apoplectic that Randy isn't coming, and there's pressure being applied.

Seven new BOS members coming in June. Can't have that change fast enough.

(I like the idea of Randy being on the staff. I like him better than the UNT assistants for sure. But the process which produces this is not one that's conducive to a first-class program.)

I would love Randy on staff, but no coach should be forced to hire certain assistants.

FIFY

I would love Johnny on staff, but no Athletic Director should be forced to hire certain coaches.

I agree with this, but we are talking about basketball assistants afterall. Can't even compare with football or even baseball assistants for that matter. So I'd say LSU basketball is the one sport where I don't mind so much if others influence who an assistant coach might be. Because it doesn't really matter.

This is so not true! Assistant coaches in basketball are critical to in game coaching, teaching in practice & especially recruiting.

If it doesn't matter, then let the guy hire who he wants.

With Jones already bringing his main recruiter and scout on as two assistants, perhaps it can be worked out to have RL as the third assistant on staff. The problem becomes hierarcy since Leonard by-all-rights should be "top assistant." Livingston is not leaving his current gig to be second or third on staff.

So you think the programs/head coaches that continue to dominant college basketball do so because of their assistants?
So maybe if TJ hired better assistants LSU would've been better?
All I'm saying is that assistant bball coaches play a much less significant role in W's and L's than say assistant football or baseball coaches.

This is exactly how great athletic programs are built. Hire a puppet for cheap and let the money men, former coaches, etc. meddle in the affairs.

Woohooo for Louisiana politics making its way back into the LSU athletic dept.

disagree, Dinardo and Maineri definately are recent examples of the need for AD input.

I could only imagine Skip walking in to tell little Nicky who he needed to hire. I would have paid money to watch that unfold.
