Draft Talk: Linebackers

After free agency the need factor for LB is completely upside down.
TEAM: Vilma, Lofton, Wilson, Chamberlain, Hawthorne, Herring, Shanle, Bussey is a lot to work with.
I have 5 LBs as no way in hell ever being available at #89- Kuechly, Hightower, Upshaw, Zach Brown, & Lavonte David.
The next tier I would say improbable but maybe a chance. Guys you should be happy if they were around-
Mychal Kendricks Cal- a thumper and prolly more an inside guy. I think a 3-4 team will like him ILB
Bobby Wagner Utah St.- we actually considered him in previous threads for the 2nd Rd., wouldn't be disappointed at all
Bruce Irvin West Virginia- prolly one of the most intriguing options if available. Plenty of threads on him in the past if ya wanna look. Great one trick (pass rush) we could use. Problem is he doesn't have the size for DE and mobility and/or smarts/experience for LB. If they chose him it would be cuz Spags sees a hybrid role he could play.
Not so much a BPA must pick category but in the #89 ranking range-
Sean Spence Miami- I mocked him to NOLA before the LBs signed
Keenan Robinson Texas- solid pick for that area
Travis Lewis Oklahoma- good WLB potential, reviewed a lot before also
Players with questions or stretch picks I could see at #89-
Audie Cole North Carolina St.
Nigel Bradham Florida St.

Good post but Mychal Kendricks went to Cal, not Wisconsin.
Beyond that, Kendricks would be my preferred choice with his freakish athletic ability and experience playing both inside and outside LB. I would be really happy to see a LB core of Wilson, Lofton, and Kendricks in two years but I think Wagner and Spence are more likely targets.
Wagner has good speed and size but Spence apparently is a very smart player that covers pretty well which might be a more important area of need with Lofton having a poor reputation for coverage and Wilson not having much experience in man-to-man coverage.

I think it's no use trying to talk football here for a while guys. Bounties, scandals, or even uniforms are of more interest to the posters who have overrun ST. I won't give up but I don't expect any change until after the draft and when the Brees deal gets done.

Jesus, the bitching about the bad posting is almost as bad as the bad posting.
Let me formulate an opinion regarding LB's.

I don't know if we need any pure LBs and would actually for the first time in awhile be pretty disappointed if they take one in the earlier rounds..or probably actually at all.
But Irvin is pretty intriguing. We could use all the pass rush we need even just as a situational guy. If he drops to the third or 4th that's kinda hard to pass on

Listening to Vitt talk today, he wants Scott Shanle to be our Sam if Vilma is injured.
Since Vilma isn't healthy yet (and he'll probably be suspended a lot), maybe we should be thinking about replacements for Scott Shanle.
Bobby Wagner looks like a very good prospect. He's added weight recently, and he's in the weight-height ballpark for strongside.
He did excellent his senior year with tackles, sacks, and picks.
Also, possibly in a lower round, we could go after Keenan Robinson.
He's 6-3 and right at the appropriate weight range.
He's also very fast, but he regressed a bit in his senior year.
Although, I still don't think we should go after LB's this early in the draft.
