per ESPN:

quote:

To say that LSU is thin in the frontcourt is an understatement. As Randy Rosetta of TigerSportsDigest.com writes today, "of the Tigers' seven returning scholarship players, six are guards or swingmen -- rising sophomore Johnny O'Bryant (6-foot-9, 262 pounds) is the only true post player." And most of the 2012 recruits that LSU is in on are also guard or swingmen. So which post players does new coach Johnny Jones still have a shot at? According to Rosetta, two possibilities could include John Odo, a 6-11, 240-pound sophomore from Hill College in Texas who committed to Jones at North Texas, and former Nebraska commit Fahro Alihodzic, a 6-foot-9, 240-pound JUCO big man who played parts of two seasons at Fordham.

Fahro's FG percentage is pretty terrible for a big man.

The kid from UNT is a long shot at best. He's already signed. UNT would have to release him.

rivals lists Troy Jones a 6'7" PF from Peabody as unsigned and with an LSU offer and Clyde Santee a 6'8" PF from Houston with an LSU offer but I'm not sure if they 1. have offers now or 2. ever really had LSU offers.

Odoh is apparently not signed or could ask for release (these are from ESPN).

Fahro is still better than Del Piero and a 2 year stop gap that we could use if he is long and athletic (I don't know anything about him tbh).

Jones will most likely not qualify and even if he does, he is more around 6'5. Haha.

Don't know anything about Santee but haven't heard LSU mentioned with him in a while.

John Odoh already signed his letter of intent with North Texas. He would be a great addition, as he is a very good player. He was previously committed to Southern Miss. It depends on whether Jones is willing to raid UNT's recruiting class, and whether they would release Odoh from his letter. If one of Jones' assistants gets the job, I would say this is doubtful.

Fahro Alihodzic was never contacted by the previous staff. I know that for sure. He is a good player as well.

I have mentioned him in previous posts. He signed with Nebraska in the fall, and then was kicked out of his junior college along with nearly his entire team for undisclosed reasons. The school forfeited the remainder of their season.

The potential connection between Alihodzic and LSU is that he is a former player at Canarias Basketball Academy, where current recruit Shane Hammink plays. After he was kicked out of JUCO, he returned to CBA to spend the semester working out. He played on the team with Hammink that finished second to the USA in a big Euro tournament last week, where Hammink was the MVP.

Since he did not finish junior college, his eligibility may be a question mark. I doubt LSU is involved with him.

Zane Knowles, a 6-9, 245 center at Pearl River Community College, could be a target as well. He has been mentioned here before by several people. He is a former Grambling player and averaged 12.5 points this year. An assistant at Pearl River, Chris Oney, is a reported candidate for an assistants job at LSU.

There are some other potential post player recruits that I am working on right now. Hopefully will have some info soon.

wouldn't mind taking a guy like Fahro since he'll only be here for 2 years and he's a depth guy. Don't know if he's even an 8 and 8 guy in the SEC though

Troy Jones is a SF in college and is definitely going to junior college. He will not qualify.

It looks like Santee, who is also more of a college SF, will go to prep school. He had some mid-major offers, but wanted to go high major. He will go to prep school to increase is opportunities, unless a major offer comes in late.

I thought when the coach leaves you can change it without penalty?

No. Schools often release players out of courtesy, but they are not required to do so.

The NCAA will allow him a release since he hasn't reported to school yet.

The same thing Gunner Kiel did.

Negative on both counts. The school has to release him. They are not required to do so. A coaching change is not valid grounds for a release.

Gunner Kiel never signed, so he has no bearing on this discussion.

Gunner Kiel never signed his LOI with LSU.

ETA: We're going to be a face-paced team next year with our lack of big men.

In 16 games at Southeastern Iowa Community College, Fahro Alihodzic averaged 15.2 ppg, 7.5 rpg and 0.5 bpg. He shot 68.3 percent from the floor and 62.8 percent from the foul line.

Here's the link to the story about the team getting kicked off the team.

Academically, getting him in school shouldn't be that difficult. Assuming that he was eligible at Fordham when he left, he can just transfer the credits from Fordham to LSU and be eligible.

If they can get Odoh instead of this guy they'd be better off. He's got some offensive game, but a 6-11 guy who only averages a half a blocked shot per game is a 6-11 guy who can't defend worth spit. Get Odoh and then find a 6-8 kid with some athleticism.

There are a lot more than that out there. If he is going to sign a project, I would rather it be a junior college player. At least he would have some experience, but if he didn't work out he only uses up a scholarship for two years.
