Got a quick question if you have time to answer it. I downloaded a 7 second video from Youtube. What's the best way to convert it to a GIF file so I can mess around with it in GIMP? I have been messing around with them tonight but cant figure it out.

I usually convert all my clips (youtube or otherwise) to Quicktime movies (.mov format). I can import the .mov directly into Photoshop or After Effects and work with it there...the last thing I do is convert to .gif format for export. I am not familiar with Gimp so I can help you with advice on that program. Maybe Rattle uses it. If you are just starting to get into to farking I advise ditching the Gimp and jumping on board with Photoshop...it is the Flagship.

Give this a look: LINK

I'm Ps...but I have played around with GIMP/GAP a little. I agree with TNGOP on switching.
