This is one hell of an informative interview of Dale Brown.
Definitely worth the time. Sure wish he was still our coach after that.

Too long, may watch some later on...It did not end well for Dale, and that's sad...Did he explain why his last 4 years sucked so bad? I'm guessing the NCAA was watching him pretty closely during that time. Do you not think there were shenanigans involved in getting a player like John Williams to come to LSU all the way from Crenshaw in Los Angeles?

Coach Brown did not do well because of the NCAA sanctions resulting from the witch hunt post "gustapo bastards" comment and writing hundreds of letters to NCAA presidents calling for changes to the NCAA rule book.

Much to his credit, many of his suggested changes were made by the NCAA, after they ruined his career.

There is much unwarranted hate for Coach Brown on this board.

Almost as much for Coach Miles.

I do not understand it.

I guess many who post here are not really fans.

I really get a kick out of all the people that say Coach Brown was not an X and O's guy.

How do you win more conference games than anyone except Rupp and not be an X and O's guy?

I guess this is just another case of blind luck, huh?

I'll digress.

LSU was so lucky to have Coach Brown.

In light of Lester's confession of LYING to the NCAA so he could play for Roy Williams, should not Coach Brown be lauded for standing up to the NCAA?

What is the current NCAA President (Mark Emmert) doing to change things?

Not investigate Auburn for the Cam Newtson scam and allow his chum, Nick Saban to hire the girlfriend of a five-star Louisiana recruit, for starters...

Devil's advocate answers this as: You stay coaching in the same conference for 25 years.

This entire entry makes me think YOU weren't an LSU fan during his tenure. Sorry, but he did brazenly break NCAA rules with regularity. They were willing to turn a blind eye until he kept poking them in the eye.

I am a fan of LSU basketball and grew up among the greats of Brown's tenure. I am not going to out myself here with specifics, but I saw major violations take place as a child. You can either believe me or not, but don't act like he was the Patron Saint of Winning.

John Williams grandmother lived in Louisiana when Dale recruited him so there were Louisiana ties for him to come to LSU. He had family already in state.

Yeah and I hope we get the opportunity to stomp a real mudhole in North Carolina!

Yeah...like paying for the players to take a trip to Kansas for a fundraiser for a player dying with cancer in 1981? C'mon.

He did suck his last 4 years, and started the downward trend this program has been in by staying 3 years too long. Not to mention getting our program wrapped with serious violations that we still haven't recovered from.

I hope you are not serious about that comment. A final four and a sweet 16 is not recovered?

I like this hire. I grew up watching from the early 80's. I think we will see a relationship with the high schools that hasn't been there before. I had season tickets until early 90's, and now thinking about getting again.

Signed,

Seriously? We have long since "recovered" from the sanctions. We were mediocre before the sanctions, during the sanctions, and now after the sanctions. Take out 2-3 good years and LSU basketball hasn't been good since the early 90's.
