Thoughts on the career of the chili peppers. This is probably my favorite band

I think RHCP is a great band and well deserving of the Rock and Roll HOF. Like many bands who have been around for 20+ years their recent output has not touched their older stuff. That being said the band is awesome!

Like I've said before, never have a had two extreme emotions for a band... when in HS, I loved them... then around the time of Mother's Milk, they started turning into something I didn't like... from the 90's to now, I absolutely can stand them...

That said, props to them... A lot of people obviously do and I guess they deserve their spot in the HoF

I think it’s become hip among the music press to take potshots at them, which is a shame. Their early period is fan-frickin-tastic, and I honestly don’t think their late career output is bad, it’s just not nearly as good as their early stuff. But no one rags on the Stones because Voodoo Longue isn’t Beggar’s Banquet.

Really, one of the best bands at incorporating funk into rock. Flea is an amazing bassist as well, which helps. Fun band and I never get tired of Mother’s Milk.

True, but the Stones put out many great records...

I give them credit for longevity, surviving a terrible early self-destructive period and death... To still be around making music and staying relevant is a huge achievement, I just dont like their music (Maybe Slovak and Irons were the creative force I liked in them back then)

I just don't think their music ages that well. They kinda remind me of Rage Against the Machine in that way.Above average musicians but I can't really see Zach screeching out their style of music that well at 40 either. It would wear on everybody after a while.

RHCP got pretty good at promoting and branding themselves.

Sounds like a case of liking a band until they got popular.

I never heard of them until Mother's Milk. I love Blood Sugar Sex Magic and then listened to their earlier stuff like Freaky Styley.

The later stuff like Californication and Stadium Acradium is pretty good imo, not spectaular, but not bad, some catchy songs. They got older and their style changed a bit, still a fun band to see live, though maybe not as much fun as when they wore only 1 tube sock, but after age 24 you probably should be streaking anymore

I find this interesting, one the one hand people will blast a band when all their stuff sounds the same. Then others will rip a band if their sound changes.

I'm just giving you a hard time, you are admitting its mostly your tastes that changed and not ripping on them the way music snobs do.

Most groups should stop after two or three albums if they want to retain popularity among music snobs and keep them from saying they "sold out." You can't win once you get "popular"
