I'm curious as to the best way to drop cable? Get a Roku? Hulu plus? Netflix? How can I watch sports?

Dude I was paying 150.00 a month for cable and internet. Now I pay about 20.00. Got Netflix(for movies) and Hulu plus for tv shows(not on local stations)each one is $8.00 a month. Hook up HD antenna(local stations) to watch fox, cbs, abc in HD for free. Crackle is free and has a bunch of older movies on it. If you got xbox you can watch espn 3 for sports stuff like sportcenter and highlights and also watch some college sports on their also. Espn is free also. Internet I just switched providers and saved about 45.00 a month

Not feasible in my area. DSL via phone lines sucks and that's the only real internet alternative for most of us. Just no substitute for cable internet unless you are lucky enough to have access to T1 or T3 service, have DSL available via network cable like cat5 or better or have fiber optic access. For the rest of us it pretty much leaves you with cable internet if you want decent bandwidth.

As for TV, yea there's other alternatives through via high speed internet. There's a bunch of free sites to either download or watch streaming TV or movies but yes, a lot of them suck.

I cancelled Cox last month. Best thing I've ever done. Bill was $200 a month and going up all the time. I bought a Roku and pay $7.99 for Hulu Plus. I also had Amazon Prime anyway, so get free instant streaming from them. Sister gets Netflix, so we use her account and get Netflix for free. Parents have HBO, so we use their HBOGo account for free. Roku has lots of free "channels" with free movies, docs, tv etc. Even has the SEC channel for free.
We got the Mohu Leaf Hd antenna and get 25 broadcast channels for free. The picture is better than our Cox Hd was.

I get every single show I watch regularly (game of thrones, true blood, mad men, once upon a time, in plain sight, law & order svu, ncis, etc) that I did with cable for $47.99 a month ($40 for internet). I wish I had done this sooner. I'm saving $150 a month, that's $9k saved in 5 years.

all you replace cable people seem to overlook live sports. I like sitting in my house and watching sports any night especially during football season. I'd hate to have to go to a bar or friend's house for every event.

Truth. I pay $79/month with Comcast, $59 of it is 20 Mbps interwebz. They will black out local sports on your Xbox. I just don't see the advantage of dropping cable and losing all my sports, which is the only reason I watch TV anyway.

What would you do if you didn't get stolen account access? By using someone else's account, you are stealing.

I'd pay the $8 for Netflix, no biggie. Why do it if I don't have to? Guess I'm a Netflix thief. You know what? I don't feel bad, about that.
As for sporting events, I have an antenna. I can get Saints games and they'll look better on my tv than with cable. Thats all the sports I watch and 90% of the time I do watch Saints games out with friends, even when I was paying $200 month for cable. Most major sporting events are broadcast on broadcast tv btw.
Roku also has the SEC channel that shows SEC games and stuff.
If I really wanted to watch a sporting event that I couldnt get in my tv, there are sites online to do this.

I just dont watch all that much sports, so not an issue for me.

Most MLB games can be found online easily. All NFL games but Sunday night football are on broadcast. MLS is on Roku for free. The only thing you truly miss out on are college basketball and college football, but even then, you can find plenty enough teams on Saturday on your broadcast stations, and online if necessary.

Most all sports is on the networks which I get in crystal clear HD with my gomohu.com leaf antenna.

If the game is on any ESPN network I can get it on XBOX with ESPN360.

I miss NFL Network games but I save $120 per month too. I'd rather have my $120 per than NFL Network.

I've been without cable for 4 months and no problem.

Should have written that I canceled Cox Cable...i kept them for my internet. Just no better alternative imo. DSL is slow compared to cable. I hate Cox, but I need the internet. Still saving $150 a month.

That mohu leaf antenna is awesome btw and so thin. I love mine.

ESPN3 through PlayOn on Roku seems to do the job to fill my sports needs.

ETA: And my TV antenna picks up all the broadcast channels.
