I used to love LSU basketball. For the period of about 1980 to about 1993 I may have loved it more than LSU football. I generally had to work weekends when going through college but I remember staying late studying for week night games and watching teams with guys like Jerry Reynolds, Nikita Wilson, Don Redden, John Williams and Jose Vargas. I remember the great 1986 season - the chicken pox game where a bunch of backups gave it their all and came within one possession of beating Kentucky. We gave the team a standing ovation as they left the court. I hope we can return to those days. I loved Dale Brown in his prime. He was never the best coach but you could get behind him and enjoy the ride. LSU basketball has just not been the same since the year after Shaq. There were a few good years. 2006 and 2009 were a lot of fun. I hope Jones can succeed. The team is in pretty bad shape right now with Hamilton leaving and only one guy currently coming in. I just have a tough time thinking Jones is a guy that can build a successful program in the SEC. I know he can do it with one elite class but I don't even see us drawing above average, SEC-caliber players. Somebody cheer me up. What is our path to success?
