Heading out to Golden Meadow for some fishing this weekend and looking to catch a few of those big specs that have been biting. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good spec top-water lure?

Everyone likes the top dawg but I've always been partial to the chug bug.

I'm a top dog fan, but my favorite has to be this little spook jr in the bone color shown. I have caught some really healthy trout on this thing.

For the price the BPS brand is pretty good, I usually get a color that is closest to a mullet pattern. LINK

I also like to use a popping cork but I am not sure if that classifies as a true top water or not. LINK

A DOA shrimp is also a great choice and it is surprisingly weedless if the grass isn't matted on the surface. LINK

What are the ideal times and conditions to throw topwater for specks? I've caught a couple in the past, but would like to try it more often.

anytime they want to hit it. Won't take long to find out. I've caught em shooting through 3 footers so surface conditions are irrelevant sometimes
