Aren't many of you clammering for the glory days of LSU BB to return? Those glory days were lead by Dale Brown and his teams. As I recall, neither Dale nor past players, had any input into the hiring of JB or TJ. Maybe those who orchestrated the glory years of basketball know something about basketball. I know probably not half as much as the OTers, but humor me.

JJ has a passion for LSU, is from Louisiana so he can probably recruit well, and will get the full support of the alumni (which is huge!)

Plus, right now LSU isn't in the position to attract a top-notch coach. He would be inheriting a talent depleted team, which will take him a couple of years to turn it around.

And don't say Saban came into a similar situation, because Saban inherited a pretty damn talented football team.

I think Jefferson would make a fine basketball coach.

I know right? I can't understand why LSU didn't ask the guys who landed the program on probation who they would reccommend as the next coach.

That was coming off a momentum building 3-8 season

LSU can't attract a big name coach, so let's just settle for the most passionate one.

Personally I have nothing against Jones. This just seems to me a hire that you cannot take another chance with. If LSU is serious about getting basketball back competitive then they need to go make a serious hire and drop some coin on a proven, at this level, commodity. If it takes $3 mil, then spend $3 mil. to get interest back in LSU basketball.

Or hire Jones and have Temple happy but the paying fans unhappy.

i think a lot of the people on here who don't want jones think that he'd be a bad hire simply because he was a brown assistant. just because he's an lsu guy doesn't mean he's automatically a bad coach. ask them who they want and its either some big time name thats a longshot or a guy who's resume is no better. jones actually built the program at north texas instead of a lot of these guys who took over for a coach and have maintained the former coach's sucess for 2 or 3 years and became a hot name.

Well lets see, terrible record as a head coach in a terrible conference at North Texas. Assistant coach at LSU when the Lester Earl situation occurred. unproven.............ummmmm, i think that pretty much covers it. Louisiana ties does not a coach make.

The burden shouldn't be on everyone else to prove why Jones doesn't deserve this gig. It should be on the OP to prove to us he does. There is simply nothing that would prove to me that this guy deserves this position.

Ok, so go ahead and tell me about how he's a top notch coach at North Texas in the Sun Belt.

Those are facts, not rantings. Does that seem like a guy that warrants a $1.5 million contract?

He won 20 games 5 out of the last 6 years. We have only won 20 games 5 times since 1993. He won the conference tourney twice and regular season once. UNT sucked hard before he got there. Hes not a earth shaking hire but he doesnt have a "terrible record as UNTs coach"
