Will accutaly finish all the books for HBO? I mean they are splitting the 3rd book in two seasons that means it will end around 2018, with 2018 being the 7th book that has not even been started yet. Anthor question will they be able to keep the core actors to stay (the four main characters book readers know who I am talking about.) until 2018.

I think that fat bastard is going to croak before he finishes the books. That being said, HBO will finish what they can. The ratings and reviews are very good.

Compared to the first three, then yes. I still think its a good book and it's important to the story arc.

If they take less time off in between and release them sooner, it could be done.

I do too, unfortunately. It takes him a few years to write one.

Well, the third book is amazing, so they will easily get to a fifth season at least. After that it could go either way, but they will be combining the 4th and 5th books to make the fifth season I'm sure, so it has a better shot than otherwise.

If Martin doesn;t speed his happy arse up writing the books the tv series will pass him.

I wouldnt be all that surprised for HBO to bail on the show much in the same way they had to bail on Rome

as much money as they may make off subscriptions, there's still no ads. Subscribership would have to increase dramatically and that increase would have to be directly attributed to people who sign up for HBO just to see GoT. I think the likelihood of that happening are very slim. With such a huge production budget, it's going to be difficult to sustain any sort of justification to offset the increasing costs, even with Blu-Ray sales

I could however, see Sci-Fy or another similar sized cable network pick up the series for the last few seasons and just ride it out on a limited budget similar to the way they took on Stargate

I think you underestimate DVD and Blu-Ray sales. That's a much bigger piece of the pie than you might think.

2018? Where did you get that? Isnt this season book 2? It will take 6 years to film two seasons when they are averaging one season per year currently?

Someone jump in and correct me if I'm wrong, but I though HBO had said they were waiting to see what DVD sales of S1 did before committing to S3 and beyond. After only two episodes of S2, they have already committed to S3, so that leads me to believe that they have had excellent succes with DVD sales of S1.

Sources: Google them. I'm drunk and don't feel like doing it.

I thought I remember reading that he has notes for the final books so at least some other author could pick up the story and essentially complete it as GRRM wanted it. I hope so at least.
