For some reason I have always wanted to join the CG since I graduated. I have been working in EMS and volunteering with a local Fire Dept for the past five years. I am currently in school for Engineering, but I really cant see myself staying there.
Does anyone have experience with the CG and where would my skill set fit in? TIA!

this isnt a job interview, they are going to provide all the training for whatever you specialize in.

I love EMS, I always wanted to do AST.
If I had a chance Id take up firefighting, I dont want to be in the medical field as a career which is why I decided to go back to school.

I don't know anything about the coast guard but i've done my time in the navy. Most of the rates between the two branches are pretty linear. There is no rate that is just plain firefighting. Damage control men take charge of firefighting evolutions and take care of maintenance when nothing is going on.

pretty shitty reason to devote 4+ years to something.
you could go with the standard answer, you want to join the military, but only with the least-militaristic branch.

The CG has some definite pluses. You often get more responsibility at a lower rank, you're less likely to spend a year at sea or in some foreign shithole, and there are a lot of sweet duty stations: Alaska, Hawaii, FL, etc.

There we go! I like the CG because there is alot of CG stations in LA. Hell we have a cutter at the port of vermilion!
