1987 was a great year, but consider the releases in 1983:
(This does not include all the pop/new wave/country albums released, only ones I know about)

Anvil – Forged in fire
Asia – Alpha
Accept – Balls to the wall
Black Sabbath – Born again
The Cure – Japanese whispers
Def Leppard - Pyromania
Depeche Mode – Construction time again
Dio – Holy diver
Dokken – Breaking the chains
Iron Maiden – Piece of mind
Journey – Frontiers
Kiss – Lick it up
Krokus – Headhunter
Men At Work - Cargo
Michael Shenker Group – Built to destroy
Ministry – With sympathy
Metallica – Kill ‘em all
Motley Crue – Shout at the devil
New Order – Power, corruption & lies
Pink Floyd – The final cut
Queensryche – Queensryche EP
Rainbow – Bent out of shape
Ratt – Ratt EP
Robert Plant – Principle of moments
Savatage - Sirens
Saxon – Power and the glory
Styx – Killroy was here
Thin Lizzy – Thunder & lightning
Twisted Sister – You can’t stop rock n roll
Tygers of Pan Tang – The cage
Tokyo Blade – Tokyo blade
U2 - War
Y&T – Meanstreak
Zebra - Zebra

Pretty weak year. Ian Hunter had an album that year too.

Was a pretty lame year for what I like. I could only find the ones below. Many bands I like released albums I did not like.
REM - Murmer
Madness - Madness
B52s - Whammy
Violent Femmes -
Talking Heads - Speaking in Tongues
Big Country - The Crossing
X - More Fun in the New World

I might dedicate an entire thread to the greatness that was Asia's first 3 albums:
Asia
Alpha
Astra

After looking at that list, it's no wonder this thread dropped to page 2 so quickly.

Violent Femmes is my pick.

Asia - I was embarrassed for John Wetton.

True. I am, and it's by far the best/highest form of snobbery.
