Welcome to the 90's!

Finally giving this game a whirl, started over the weekend. Pretty cool storyline so far...

You are in for a great couple of hours. I love Chrono Trigger and could play it over and over (and have). It and Final Fantasy 6 are SquareSoft's pinnacle as far as I'm concerned.

I still go back and play it from time to time.

When graphics weren't the priority, they told a story.

When market share demographics weren't paramount, you were challenged to figure out your own solutions.

It's certainly my favorite, but I often don't like to label something as "the greatest," that seems like an empty and hard to prove compliment.

But maybe in this case it's true.

And you didn't have to pay extra for quests and content. Or pay for different endings.

Did anyone get all 14? I think that was the final count.

I can't remember if that was the final count, but I remember pouring over my issue of Nintendo Power to try to get them all. Hardest was going after Lavos as only Chrono right after starting a new game+.

such a great game. chrono cross played into the FF style bullshite, but having that many characters and that much area to cover made it great.

Words cannot express how much I thoroughly enjoyed this game when I was in high school. Going to have to get it on the virtual console now.

Yeah. It sounds cheesy, but at least at the time, there was something magical about the game.

It does sound cheesy, but there were only a few games that really moved me like that one. It was sort of like how mind blowing playing the original Legend of Zelda was.

Only 3 things ever made me skip classes in college.

-The Stand (Unabridged)--->Skipped a whole week. . .barely even ate.

-Advent of internet porn---> Scattered instances

-Chronotrigger--->Let's just say, I'm surprised I didn't flunk out.

One of my favorite games of all time. Does not top FFVI though.

Related - I finally got around to replaying Chrono Cross last night for the first time since my younger years. I realized it really wasn't all that good.

agreed.

I was disappointed.

But,

Is incorrect.

FF VI had the edge for me because the game seemed a little more polished (by SNES standards) and it lasted a little longer, it felt a little more fleshed out, and I loved the cast of characters.

Chrono Trigger ranks only half a fraction below it though.

FFVI and chrono trigger are the best games that squaresoft ever made.

Sucks to see what they have been reduced to in recent years.

True story. I made it halfway through the last Final Fantasy game and just quit because 1. I had no fricking clue what was going on and 2. it was as linear as the original Super Mario.

I enjoyed the Final Fantasy Tactics games, but I feel like Final Fantasy IX was the last true RPG they made that I really liked.

The "one more turn" on Civilization II fricked me pretty badly also.
