I've always heard of the monstrous bass that get caught in the pool, and I've duck hunted in Welsh for years, but I've never fished it before and am itching to make a trip soon. Just looking for some information and tips from the SWLA bass fisherman who are familiar with it. TIA

ETA: let's hope this works, Cadello

ETA: just realized ab the 40 HP motor limit....I guess a mudboat would be better in this case then

don't waste your time this year, trust me

it's my favorite and most often visited fishing hole

the drought last year really, REALLY messed up the fish population

if the lack of oxygen and water didn't do 80% of the fish in, then the gators took care of the rest

opening day (march 15th) it's normal for every boat to bring in AT LEAST 20 fish during their trip....this year from the reports of the game wardens surveying EVERYONE who left there....there was only 18 fish caught out of the pool TOTAL for the entire day

it's a crying damn shame and it kills me

IMO it needs to be closed for 2 years with the levys being built up a few more feet to keep water in (there is a spot on the east side that continuously drains out into a different part of the refuge if the water gets to a certain height. that needs to be shut off

any other questions? i'm the guy to ask

i fished the no motor pool last year in my kayak. it was so shallow the only place to fish was the 30' wide ditch next to the levee. got there early, and caught a few, then 3 cocksuckers in a bateau trolling motored past me, so i have to fish their flogged water for the next hour. one more bite. If the impoundments have refilled, i imagine it may take a year for it to catch back up, but surely there are still some hawgs in there that survived. They will grow quickly.
