One that leaves the ending open to Interpretation or one that has a definite ending.
I watched Inception again last night and thought about this. While I like being able to try and draw my own conclusion at times there are other times I just don't want to think that hard.

As to the original question. I don't mind "open to interpretation" if done well, but I don't think anyone minds a nicely wrapped up story.

Did you see an extended ending or something because I didn't see it fall.

I'm just messing with you. When the movie originally came out, threads were full of it fell/it didn't fall debate.
I choose to believe I heard it fall after the screen went to black. I think one of the producers said it fell too, but he may have been pulling our leg.

I think the debating is part of what makes an open ending fun. I remember doing this with people for months about the Sopranos.
Also I agree when it went to black I choose to believe I heard it fall.

Both have their place just depends on what I'm in the mood for.

Exactly how I feel. I don't think I could strictly watch movies and tv shows that only ended with interpretive conclusions. I appreciate a finished and wrapped up story line. Some mystery and guess work is fun but not all the time.

You're right about the definite ending, but wrong about the ending.

Depends on the story, not me. Some narratives lend themselves well to open ended endings, some don't. Hopefully the writer/director get that right.

.....Um. Stop being a know-it-all. I'm in the camp of it's completely irrelevant if it falls because it wasn't his totem in the first place. All that matters is that Leo has completed his journey and think he's united with his kids. No one has a definitive answer for this film.

Exactly. Sometimes I love an open ended story. Other times it drives me insane. It does however require much more skill as a film maker to do an open ended one than a closed end film.
