I killed a pair of stud toms Tuesday afternoon in SC with one shot (not intentional, but cool). I located them and called them in using a Haint gobble call from Down N Dirty Outdoors, and helped a little with a glass call. This thing is wicked once you figure out how to use it, it is not like a duck call, which messed me up at first, was trying to chuckle.
#1 bird was 21 lbs, 12" beard, and had 1 1/4" and 1 3/16" spurs. #2 bird was 20 lbs, 10.5" beard, and had double 1 1/4" spurs. Killed 'em at 5:30 PM EST, after an hour plus contest with them. 5 toms came into together, plus a 6th flanked me from the other side, I couldn't tell one was behind the other when I clucked to raise their heads for the shot. They were coming in to stomp my arse, it was fascinating to watch, looked like the velociraptors from Jurassic Park!
The second pic is of the bird I killed Sunday, opening morning, no Haint yet, but got two toms to close the deal. He was 19 lbs, 9.5" beard, and double 3/4" spurs.
Fun season so far! Try the Haint, you will have fun learning how to use it!

What a pair...It must have been exciting to have them charging in. Did you have a Decoy? Blind?

I am going to have to go again next week. I think there are some bigger Toms out there. I know the one I got last week has a twin that needs eating.

I was using a Primos Killer B strutting tom decoy. First time I ever hunted with it. I rarely use hen decoys, and never males. But, I figured if I was going to gobble, I ought to have one. I think it helped, these guys were pissed on the way in!

Never seen a 12" beard, would love to see pics...

Congrats! I've only pulled a single shot double once. Mine wasn't an accident...

I will get the beard out of the freezer this weekend and get a pic with tape for you. I was surprised myself. Not a "paint brush" in terms of thickness, but definitely long. We are in a part of SC that has a very old strain of Easterns, not restocked. They are generally big. I hunt in Eastern NC as well, and the birds I kill there are probably 20% smaller on average. I have killed many birds that had 11" beards, but I think this one was one of 2-3 that have had a true 12". It looked like he was toting a horse dong on his chest!

My best is an 11" Osceola. Generally in Osceola country a 9-10" beard is pretty typical.

Tell me more about this caller your using. I've never been brave enough to use a gobble call..

It's brand new, made by "Down N Dirty Outdoors" out of Kentucky. It is basically a modified goose call, but the technique is totally different. It is called "The Haint". I have seen enough of your posts over the years to know that you get as jazzed about turkeys as me. I am very skeptical about new turkey hunting toys, but this thing is bad arse once you figure out how to use it. I had quit calling when i turned the camera on, but here is a link to the hunt I posted about. The camera is a cool new product too, called "Lid Cam", made by Rhino Outdoors. I hunted with the owners a few weeks ago and got turned on to it, so I am just learning how to use it as well, but it has a lot of potential.

Some pretty insane footage. Like watching a first person shooter video game..

How far was the initial shot? From the camera it looks like a 50+ yard shot.

You could definitely tell you had the adrenaline flowing from your breathing in the footage.

I'll have to check out one of those cameras. Pretty impressive picture quality.

I agree, great footage! Had to shoot one three times Monday. Tough bastages. Seems like you can shoot one and kill him dead, and barely tell where he was hit, then jelly head one and he will turn into the running/flying turkey from hell.

p.s. 1000

It was actually only 30 yards, but it does look like a football field. The depth perception on the camera is odd. It has 3 magnification settings: 1x, 4x, and 8x. I have been using it only on the 1x to get a feel for how it looks finished. I am going to try the 4x next time and see how it looks.

That's what I figured, it was the result of the zoom on the camera. I'd be curious to see what a 4x zoom would look like.

Are you using the camera straight on or are you rotating the lense for the kill shot?
