I haven't been to a pappadeaux since I ate at the one in Sugarland. They are opening in the old Ralph and Kacoo's off 280 across from the Hilton. Has it gotten worse or better?

Plans for a 280 location not far from Superior.

It was opened back during their pre-Piccadilly days and was packed every night according to everyone up here. Use to throw block parties in the parking lot when LSU played Bama up here. Of course went to shite when piccadilly acquired Ralph's.

I'm in Sugarland right now for work. We eat here at Pappadeauxs about once a week. Pretty damn good.

Yeah that location is good. The fountains has a good after work crowd. Stayed out there for a week back 2 years ago.

Same thing happened with Copelands which was across from the old Ralph and Cacoos location. Place was right beside the entrance to HealthSouth's corporate headquarters and was always packed but ended up closing anyway. It's now a Tilted Kilt location.

Overly expensive. I suppose if you can't get decent seafood anywhere else, Pappa's or Pappadeaux's would be a good option.

That family used to have a good thing going, but they are moving ever closer to Landry's in my book.

Please, never been to Pappadeaux's, it's got to raise the game in B'ham. It's going to be a tough sell, B'ham has almost zero food culture.

Yea I saw that a month ago when I was there. I ate at a place called Outriggers I think. Under the bridge. They had boiled crawfish that night. I got some. Pretty damn good. 4 lbs for 25 bucks and had some corn and a couple potatoes. Drank a few beers. Met a couple good looking milfs too.

We were at the Boardwalk for a company meeting. Cool place.

Sheek,

andouille was the one I told you about. Always running down Bham on this board claiming there are no restaurants with edible food. Ridiculous. The guy even thinks Highlands Bar and Grill, Hot n Hot Fish Club, Ocean, Cafe Dupont, etc all suck.

I eat at the Houston Hobby airport location frequently.

Pretty solid, not Louisiana Lagniappe solid, but good nonetheless.

My 3 go to dishes there: crab cakes, lobster bisque or Cobb salad.

You certainly are one to exaggeration, never once said anything negative about those places and a few more. Have been to Highlands, will likely go to HotnHot next trip. Every city of more than 100k can start supporting a good place or 2, the problem is the middle and the lack of a food culture. I've been traveling to B'ham for 15 years, I know the territory.

Not going over this ground again, spew all you want.

We need another place to eat on Hwy 280 bad!!

Not really.

Every locale has a food culture. Whether you like that culture or not is a different story.

Exactly. The problem is andouille seems to think Birmingham is unique in not having a distinctive food culture when the majority of places in America don't have a unique food culture. Most cities are simply copying the good things from different food cultures. Bham does really well and has a lot of locally owned restaurants that have Greek influence (Bright Star, Fish Market, Sarris, Zoes Kitchen (chain based in Bham), etc, etc). There are also numerous locally owned and successful bbq places, meat and 3s, and restaurants that specialize in American food.

Most places don't have the unique Creole and Cajun food culture of New Orleans and South Louisiana because even many large cities (outside of a few major cities like NYC, Chicago, San Fran, LA, and Miami) don't even have a unique food culture. It's usually a mixture of several different well established food traditions. Bham does just fine in the restaurant department. There are good locally owned places if you look for them.

P.S. It seems that Birmingham and Baton Rouge in particular get picked on disproportionately for their "chain restaurants" yet the same people that do this rave about the culinary greatness that is Popeye's chicken or Cane's chicken fingers. Relax N.O. homers, Popeye's and Cane's are great. I'm just using them to point out the double standard homerism of the food snobs on this board

Had never heard of it till I had a layover at the Houston Airport. I thought it was pretty average, not bad, not great.
