no word on JMM

“It’s a great day for three youngsters who are taking another step toward their ultimate goal of playing professional basketball,” says head coach Roy Williams. “On a very small stage, it’s a sad day for me because I won’t get to coach them again. All Tar Heel fans will miss them greatly, as well.

“When I recruit a young man I talk to them about their ultimate goals and each of them are taking that next step toward reaching the goals they spoke to me about. I am extremely pleased for them. They have meant so much to our basketball program and theUniversity of North Carolina. I thank them for everything they have contributed to Carolina Basketball.

“I really look forward to watching Harrison, John and Kendall play in the NBA. I know theywill be very successful. They have been and will always be great Tar Heels.”

"I've loved my three years at Carolina, and now I'm ready to pursue my dream of playing in the NBA,” says Henson. “It's tough to leave because I love my teammates, coaches and UNC. I wish we'd been able to bring our fans a national championship, but it wasn't meant to be. I am proud of what we accomplished, especially the last two years.

"I plan to finish working toward my degree. That's important to my parents, CoachWilliams and me. I can't say enough about how much I've enjoyed my experience in Chapel Hill. This was a big decision and it will be a big change, but I'm ready.

"I'd like to thank my parents, Coach Williams and his staff and all of my teammates for everything they've done to get me ready for this moment. I'd also like to thank all the Carolina fans who have given us so much support over the lastthree years."

“I’m honored and blessed to have the opportunity to compete in the NBA,” says Barnes. “The love and respect I have for basketball fuel the drive toward my ultimate goal – to experience an illustrious career in the NBA. I have consulted with Coach Williams and my family, and although it was a difficult decision, I have decided to enter this year’s NBA draft.

“Chapel Hill is a special place. Over the past two years I’ve enjoyed every single moment of my Tar Heel experience. The road we took to reach the Elite 8 in 2011 and again in 2012 were great team accomplishments. I am thankful to UNC fans, my teammates, and to have played for Hall of Fame Coach Roy Williams and the entire coaching staff. Now it’s time for the next course of my journey. Although I may be giving up my eligibility, I will continue to pursue my degree. I love this university and will always be a Tar Heel.”

“I would like to thank my family, coaches, teammates and the Tar Heel Nation for all their support,” says Marshall. “It’s been the greatest two years of my life. I have always put the team before myself and I am extremely proud of what we've accomplished. My life long dream has been to play basketball at the highestlevel possible and I feel now is my greatest opportunity to fulfill this goal. I will always be a Tar Heel at heart and I will carry the experiences that I’ve had here both on and off the court with me for the rest of my life.”

Honestly I understand the decision, but I do not think of Kendall Marshall the same way as before. He went out quietly, hope he can cut it at the next level. Definitely don't see him getting that much playing time at least for the first few years.

thought they all could improve their draft stock but this was expected by everyone

but looking we said that about barnes last year and his stock dropped, he probably should've gone last year

No don't think so. Pitt is awful though.

Cuse and Pitt won't join until 2014.

Good luck to them all. I hope Harrison doesn't disappoint his future NBA team the way he did all of us Tar Heel fans.

Brown puts high expectations on NC State

Can Mark Gottfried's red blazer maintain its mojo this season?
He had just finished producing more bulletin-board material than there is cork in ACC country, so when Lorenzo Brown took a breath, the question had to be asked.
Did he know what he just said?

"I know," the NC State guard said. "Go ahead and print it. I meant it."

So listen up, Tar Heel faithful and Blue Devil worshippers. Gather 'round, Clemson Tiger believers and Cavalier converts, because here it comes.

"With the incoming freshmen we have coming in here and what we have coming back, I don't see us losing any more than four games this year," Brown began. "Honestly. If we stay healthy, I think we have the talent to be a Final Four team and contend for a national championship."

Pausing briefly to take a breath that surely will fan the flames, Brown continued.

"I'm not just saying that because I'm here," he said. "Looking at the talent we have, I firmly believe that we can play with anyone in the country. There's no team in the country that can beat us. We can only beat ourselves."

Yes, Brown knows his team went to the sweet 16 last year. Yup, he realizes the Wolfpack was looking from the outside in at the postseason until a thundering run through the conference tourney.

He knows, but he also believes strongly that the team that showed up in March is the one that will be rolling come November.

And his teammates agree.

They just don't say it quite as strongly.

"We're setting the mark pretty high," said CJ Leslie, the ACC's top scoring sophomore. "We think we can win the ACC, win the ACC tournament and go very far in the NCAA. You don't want to jinx yourself, but I feel like we have so much talent and so much depth at every position that the only place we can go is up."

Outsiders might write off last year's postseason run as merely catching lightning in a bottle. The players see it differently. They believe that adjusting to new coach Mark Gottfried's style took its toll early.

His players weren't sure what to think at first, and the skepticism led to some of those early struggles.

"He'll be in the middle of a game and he'll see something," Brown said. "He'll say, 'Listen, every time down, they're doing this or doing that, so you need to do this.' I've never seen anything like it. The first time he did it, it worked. We scored like eight points in a row, so I was a believer. He called some for me, so I was like, 'Alright I like this.' I think we've got the best coach in the country."

Forgive Brown his giddiness. Up until early August, he was not sure if he would even be able to stay in the country, let alone play hoops here. In October 2005, federal authorities questioned whether Brown, who as a 9-year-old came to the United States from Jamaica with his mother, was in the United States legally and began deportation proceedings.

Originally slated for June, the hearing got pushed back to August, leaving Brown in an uncomfortable limbo the entire summer. Finally a judge closed the removal proceedings, paving the way for Brown to apply for a permanent visa and permanently fixate his attention on the Wolfpack.

"I think if me and a few other guys had played better in that sweet 16 game last year, we would have beaten Kansas and been in the elite 8," Brown said, barely pausing between incendiary thoughts. "That game just made me realize how good we are. We're too good to be accepting moral victories.

"Man, I just can't wait for this season to start with a whisper and slowly turn to a scream."

Ya think?"

UNC Athletics may also go bankrupt.

Was reading an article in the DTH a couple weeks back about it. Best believed I drove to chapel hill to get a copy and frame it when the sanctions came down

Your school newspaper published it.

It has to deal with the millions of dollars in media rights that they can lose.

yeah, i know the article you're talking about

i worked at the DTH last semester, its really not that great of newspaper and they all take themselves way too seriously, but anyway, i guess you failed to read this part of the article

"The two companies are unlikely to cut their funding to UNC"

or any of the other parts saying that it most likely wouldnt happen.

the Jordan brand brings a lot of money to Nike- you think MJ would appreciate Nike taking money from UNC?
