Link? I find it hard to believe they're not going to give a rotation spot to a guy for which they traded Montero.

They were talking about during the ST game yesterday. The broadcasters said they expect him to go to the minors, mostly because they are worried about him handling NYC and the media etc. They feel he needs more seasoning, I guess.

I didn't think it was a great deal for them, personally. Kid has all kinds of talent, but flyball pitcher in a HR hitters park just seemed like a recipe for disaster.

Safeco let him get away with only having 2 pitches. Now one of those pitches is missing 5 MPH, time to figure out how to throw a changeup.

they have a lot of options. But yeah, it is kind of an 'egg in the face'. When they got him they were kind of penciling him in as #2 or 3.

they have since signed Kuroda. Phil Hughes has also emerged. And Andy Petitte is in the stable

and they still have Nova and Freddy Garcia

Yeah, it just seems like they have developed a comfort level with the other guys more than anything.

One rationale the broadcasters gave is that it might be "more embarrassing" to move a guy like Freddy Garcia to the pen after his year last year, than it is to send a young kid to the minors who needs more work.

If true, this would be a HUGE blow to a lot of pitching staffs.

Interesting. Well good job on their part if they put aside saving face and just go with the five SP that are throwing the best.

CC
Hughes
Kuroda
Garcia
Nova

that sounds about right I guess. But then who's in line next.. Pineda or Pettite? I doubt Andy Pettite wants to sit in the pen past May.

The word around here of how it's going to play out...

1. CC
2. Kuroda

Then from Garcia (5 lock according to sources) Nova, Hughes( until Pettite is. A k and then to the pen to replace Joba with Pineda to AAA as punishment for the shape he came to camp in..

Also they look at Pineda as a long term, not a win with now pitcher and as for the Jesus for Pineda trade the yanks are still loaded at C and are very high on the other pitcher they got in the deal

That pitching staff is underwhelming. I predict a disaster year for the Bronx Bombers

Tampa
Toronto
Boston
NY
Baltimore

Michael Pineda was pulled after giving up six runs in 2 2/3 innings Friday against the Phillies. Pineda was reportedly throwing mostly in the 90-91 mph range in this one. Since his fastball hasn't come back at all, there's a good chance the Yankees will send him down to work on his mechanics in Triple-A. That'd give them room for Ivan Nova, Phil Hughes and Freddy Garcia in the rotation.

@YankeesWFAN: Pineda said his arm was sore tonight, and when asked where exactly, he pointed to back of right shoulder.

I was going into every draft targeting this guy until his first start of spring training when he was throwing 89 mph. Crossed him off my target list right then.

@YankeesWFAN: Pineda was asked several times if his arm was ok before admitting soreness. Said it was "normal" but that's not a good area to point to.
