I've been turkey hunting for over a decade now and one turkey that has always been on my bucket list is the illusive bearded hen. I've hunted dozens of states and seen hundreds of hens. None of them bearded. To make them ever more of an oddity very few states actually allow the harvest of hens.

I've always said that if I got a shot on a good one that I'd love to harvest a bearded hen. Well today I scratched the bearded hen off my turkey hunting bucket list.

An Osceola hen with an 8" beard..

That is badass, congrats. You are one turkey-killing SOB. Those Osceolas sure are pretty.

I need to stay off this board until I get in the turkey woods.

I'm becoming way too bitter.

Congrats though...I guess

Never heard of a bearded hen. Congrats

Also feel like a joke is appropriate but going to restrain.

What state let you shoot a hen? I've seen about 4 hens with beards before, but never able to shoot them because LA wouldn't like that.

You can in Texas.

Awesome bird man. You are the first person I know (I consider us e-friends) that has killed one. I've never seen one

FL's regs specify "bearded bird" which allows for a hen to be harvested if she has a beard. Many states say "male turkey" in which case you cannot shoot a bearded hen. Incidentally, FL also is one of only a few states where high powered rifles are legal for turkey A rule I'd really rather see them put to bed.

We used to have a white bearded hen on our place about ten years ago, we never did shoot her as she was just fun to watch. She dissapeared and have no idea what happened to her.

Congragts I don't think I've seen a bearded hen in the wild with that long of a beard, most have been 4-6".

I watched 2 on a hunt in Kansas but couldn't pull the trigger. We shot a double on the same set up a few minutes later. I probably missed my chance..
