I have been looking hard at this d line class and it looks like we are trying to score a significant amount of d- ends and tackles. I count 5 or more solid takes already. Are we about to have a major exodus at d-line after this season and assuming we sign RN, Manning, Gilmore, Williams, and Prevot. will we be in good shape at d-line after this year

If we signed all of them that would be the scariest dline class

Yeah if we signed all of those guys it would probably be the best D-line class ever signed at LSU.

Brockers-Montgomery-Mingo-Logan-Downs from 2009 is looking pretty solid. Three likely first rounders, another decent NFL prospect, and another strong if inconsistent contributor. And that doesn't even account for the two highest rated DL prospects in that class--Davenport and Hicks.

that's quite an assumption....but, in a reality based world, what chance do we have to score a coup like that?

I thought about that class after I posted, but wasn't sure if Mingo and Montgomery were in the same class. That class is unreal and definitely panned out to be great.

Everyone knew Montgomery would be a beast, but I thought Downs was the next best player in that line up. Just hasn't panned out that way though. (I know he's had injuries, etc. I'm just saying.)

Yes the 2009 class was the best ever and not likely to be equaled this year even if we get who we go after.

D-line wins championships. Most important area of recruiting in college ball. It makes everyone elses position look better.

Offense looks better because they just keep getting the ball back.

Look at how our biggest weakness last year on the entire team (LB) was not really ever exposed and exploited simply because the DL was doing half of their job for them all last year.

If you have the best d line then all offenses you face are going to have an up hill battle and it makes it harder for them to keep you off balance and a step behind.

We need RN and the rest of those guys if we want to be in contention for the NC as the rule and not the exception.

Or Heron from Memphis.

He's trying to come down this weekend.

Downs freshman season had most of us thinking greatness was ahead for him. His size and injuries killed that.

That was a great group in '09. Brockers, Monty and Mingo are sure 1st rounders. I personally think Logan will be if he stays all 4 years and maybe even if not. He was special in those 2 Bama games and at times in others. He was the best DL on the field in New Orleans for either team imo.

I think we take at least 6 DL in this class and maybe 7.

DE
Beckwith-I don't care if they say LB all day long, the kid will play DE.
Williams-he's the stud
Prevot-If we land him and Williams, wow
Not sure we'll land all 3 but we would take all 3 right now

DT
Lacouture-I think he will be ours sooner than later
Lawson- he'll compete with Lacouture for 1st on the board
Manning-long fight but we'll be in it
Demarcus Walker-UF will likely get him but we'll probably get a visit
Gilmore-we've got a better shot than I would've admitted a couple of weeks ago.
Herron-something about this kid intrigues me. Kind of my sleeper guy

I think 2 are in the bag and if 2 of the others wanted in I doubt we'd turn them away. Our biggest problem will be convincing them all to come in together but with how we rotate it shouldn't be too hard.

This one could rival '09 and probably be better on paper.

The 2004 class was on a par with 2009:
- Glenn Dorsey
- Claude Wroten
- Marlon Favorite
- Charles Alexander
- Tyson Jackson
- Tremaine Johnson

6 guys will be gone. You need 6 to replace them. 3 srs + logan, mingo, sam. Id like us to take 5-6.

He was good as a FR and SO and then he started to get injured and he slowed down because of gaining too much weight. He got stregth but lost his speed.

Great point by slaughlin on Patterson, since he committed not too long after that post.

This indeed has the makings of another very good DL group, even without RN from Georgia or Gilmore. But it's nice to know LSU still has maybe an outside shot at those two.
