Picked this up the other day. It a S&W 642 Power Port Pro. Anyone ever shot a ported lightweight? Hoping it tames some of the snappiness of those +p rounds. Hopefully gonna go try it out today..

Holy shite that thing will be loud. Like head splitting loud.

ETA: Very fine gun though. The port has to help with the recoil.

haha yea i'm thinking it's gonna be ridiculously loud. The few reviews I've found on it all said the same.

They probably left it noisy on purpose. That way it scares any pain-in-the-arse innocent bystanders away

My 6" blackhawk is ear-splitting loud with regular .38 loads. That thing with +P's is gonna be skull cracking.

It's a fine looking little gun though and should shoot well. If I had to CC, I'd be packing somethin like that.

Prob got one hell of a muzzle blast too with that big port pointing straight up.

I'll throw it in my pocket from time to time if I gotta go somewhere sketchy but I probably wont carry it too much. I got it more to leave around the house for when the 'ol lady is home alone. She's good with guns but has trouble with the slide of an auto and refuses to shoot the 12 gauge.

Excellent choice. That front sight looks like it could snag on clothing. The recoil of a regular 642 with +P's is unshootable.

Fine looking weapon.

How much did that set you back?

I used to have one just like it. Mine had a great trigger and was a good little gun. I just couldn't get over the port on a CC gun.

got to shoot it earlier... that's the best shooting lightweight i have ever shot. loud as all get out but you could put 100 rounds through it and your palm wouldn't hurt a bit.

i'll carry it every so often but it's more for the 'ol lady to have around when I'm out of town for work, etc..

I paid right under $400. Think the retail for it is right under $600. Dude had put less than a box through it so I was quite happy with the deal.

If you paid less than $400 you got a deal. I would recommend getting some Gold Dot Short Barrel +p ammo for it. It does will in the CC guns and with the port those rounds do not have the flash in low light. They also grouped very well in the 642 PP I had.

I got it for $365 with a galco leather holster, a speed loader, and a box of target ammo. I was very happy with the deal for sure. I've heard about that Gold Dot short barrel stuff.. i'll have to check it out..

Sweet gun. I used to have a 642 that I still regret selling. The only thing I'd caution you on is shooting that gun "from the hip.". There's a good bit of powder blast and flame shooting up out of those ports that could mess with/hurt your eyes.

Did you get out? I would think a +p would put a flame right behind the sight.
