I'm pretty active on this board and haven't seen anyone say he has responded to his suspension yet. I also haven't watched sports channels the past few days, because I'd probably throw something through the tv. So anyway, has he released any sort of statement or anything about all of this yet?

Only response was him basically saying he was not "Ok" when asked, and that he wasn't expecting it to be this bad.

I don't expect to hear anything from Payton except a canned response touting the league message. We will have to wait until his retirement for the tell-all-book to get his true feelings.

However it will be interesting next year to hear Payton interviews and read-between-the-line messages that will come about.

He really should be apologizing the the fans. I'd be friggin irate at the man until he owned up to it and apologized...

Spoken like a man who could never understand the love between a fanbase and a Superbowl winning coach. In your response to this post keep in mind this is an NFL only board.

I guess but still, I'd have thought the "Saints" are > S.P. but I could be mistaken. If I am though, does that mean you guys fold up tent and are done when SP and Drew retire/quit?

Aka what I'm trying to say is. I thought fans were fans of the team, not a head coach? Especially not a head coach that has done not 1 but now 2 things to bring shame to your organization. The pill incident got swept under the rug because of a legal clause but this one blackened both your eyes, kidney punched you and did a nut shot for fun.

You guys should be a lot more pissed at S.P., not for the actual crime, but for the cover-up than you all are.

Personally I'm pissed at Payton as well as Goodell. I think they both acted out of arrogance (Payton with his dismissive attitude and Goodell with his excessive punishment).

Oh, fair enough then. It just seems awfully quiet from his camp lately... guess that's best though.

New Orleans Saints' Mickey Loomis and Sean Payton apologize to team owner Tom Benson for role in bounties

quote:

"We acknowledge that the violations disclosed by the NFL during their investigation of our club happened under our watch. We take full responsibility," the Payton and Loomis statement began.

"This has brought undue hardship on Mr. Benson, who had nothing to do with this activity," the statement continued. "He has been nothing but supportive, and for that we both apologize to him.

"These are serious violations, and we understand the negative impact it has had on our game. Both of us have made it clear within our organization that this will never happen again, and make that same promise to the NFL and most importantly to all of our fans."

SP is an arrogant SOB. We all know that. But he is winning SB coach. I'll forgive his arrogance. He has handled this situation well, and he still has the team's support. If he's got Drew Brees and the locker-rooms support, he has got mine.

After the scandal broke, he never fanned the flames, apologized to the Fans, kept his mouth shut to the media, and even went to Goodell to talk to him. People forget that meeting was at the request of SP. I have a lot of respect for how he handled it. I dont want him gone. He'll sit a year as a penalty, then he'll come back after time served.

As for the pill thing. W/e dude. He took some vicoden. OMG noway. What does that have to do with anything?

Absolutely hands down 100% correct. We've been fans before and we'll be fans after. But he hasnt done anything to warrant losing his job. Fines and suspensions. Yes. You'll get no argument form me that he should be punished. But i dont want him gone. He's a phenomenal coach and the Team has his back, so do I. I want nothing more then him to come back from his suspension and kick the NFL's arse. Until then, I will patiently wait his return, and continue to cheer on the boys in black and gold every week.

It is upsetting, but he has already sent out an apology to the owner and fans. There is really not much more he can do at this time. I hope that things don't escalate to him being fired. I would like to see him return next year and atone for his mistakes.

Payton? My immediate thought is the famous Lombardi quote- "Winning isn't the most important thing, it is the only thing."

After decades of ineptitude then not only winning a SB but becoming established as an elite franchise forgiveness goes a long way. Belichick may come come off as a grumpy arse and may have outright cheated. Think Pats fans are interested in trading him in?

This bountyshit reminds me of the old Raiders and Al Davis... Just win baby! Who gives a flying frick what anybody else thinks? Let them band together against us and we'll still win. To be truthful, I kinda like the bad boy renegade organization image more than the pity poor New Orleans they're so woeful they deserved a Super Bowl schtick.

Yea - got no arguments from me. As much as it pains me, he's hands down one of the best coaches/offensive minded persons in the game today, if not last 10-20 years.

By winning the SB in '09 he deserves the right to come back and redeem himself. Hell, I don't even want him suspended - I want to beat the brakes off of the Saints BUT at full strength. No fun in possibly beating your 2nd string D.

This will be an interesting change of events that I'm curious to see unfold. God, can Saints fans get more annoying on gamedays? They just might...

Imagine DD smitty trying to put free agency...the draft...ota's...new coaches...players...schemes...camp schedule...pre-season and game planning for 17 weeks and possible playoffs?

Busy is not an apt word.

Amen. frick the fake pity everyone has felt for us. And the "victim mentality" everyone projects on us. Embrace the hate. We will take care of business this season. Black Jerseys every game baby.
