What in your opinion on the Hornets biggest needs right now?

9-10: Huge need
7-8: Big need
4-6: Could be upgraded, but not pressing
1-3: Not a need

PG:
Jarrett Jack- one remaining
Greivis Vasquez- two years + RFA

Some people think PG is the Hornets biggest need. In a rebuilding project, I disagree. Jarrett Jack is not a starting point guard on a playoff team. But he is a VERY good backup. He's a combo guard. Greivis Vasquez is a very exciting prospect. He may be a little slow, but he has a great feel for the game and can visualize his passes before they happen. I'm very happy to have him locked up for a few years.

Level of Need: 6. It's only a 6 instead of like a 4 because I don't think Jarrett Jack has a future with the team. I don't think he's a Hornet a year from now. While I love Greivis as a backup guard, I don't think he is starting material. I would rather draft and groom a PG rather than go after one in FA because I don't think there are any clear upgrades available.

SG:
Eric Gordon- RFA
Marco Belinelli- UFA
Xavier Henry- one year + team option

Resigning Eric Gordon is a must. He has a injury history but luckily you can grow out of that. None of his injuries have been serious. Gordon is a high scoring SG who is a excellent slasher. Good shooter, though a little overrated. Short and not long, but a solid defender. Marco Belinelli and Xavier Henry are interesting. I think Marco would be a great wing off the bench, but Xavier has recently shown to be a solid slasher and good defender. He's also shown the ability to hit the midrange jumper. So what do you do with Marco? Honestly I don't know. I think X is strong enough to play the three some. I say resign Marco to a two year 5 or 6 million dollar deal.

Level of need: 8. It's a eight because no way we lose both Gordon and Marco. I think we resign both. Add those two guys with a developing Xavier Henry and you have a nice SG rotation.

SF:
Trevor Ariza- one year + player option
Al-Farouq Aminu- one year + team option

I really like Trevor Ariza. But after this year he only has one year remaining them he could choose to leave town if 7.7M isn't important to him. How confident are you that he stays? That's what this one leads too. The draft has some good SF prospects, and I think we have a good one on our own roster in AFA.

Level of need: 4. Trevor Ariza isn't a star, but he's more than a viable option. The only reason this isn't a 1-3 is because of that chance that he leaves town leaving us with AFA. Here is a question to ponder. We get something like pick 3 or 4. Davis and Robinson are gone. How hard is passing up a guy like Barnes or MKG?

PF:
Carl Landry- UFA
Jason Smith- two years
Gustavo Ayon- two years team option

I like Carl Landry as a first big off the bench type of guy. Great scorer, physical player. Sadly though, he's gone after this year. That leaves you with Jason Smith and Gustavo Ayon. Those two guys have started 27 games for us this year. I know people like Goose, and people like Smith. But neither is starting material. Maybe Goose develops nicely, but right now he's best served for a bench role. This draft is deep with PF's. Davis, Robinson, Drummond, Sullinger, Moultrie, Jones, Henson, Zeller, etc. The list doesn't stop.

Level of need: 10. EASILY the Hornets biggest need. We can't go into next year starting Goose or Smith. We just can't. Hornets also may have a decision to make. Both are pretty cheap, but if you get a PF who comes in right away and starts, who's your second PF off the bench?

C:
Chris Kaman- UFA
Emeka Okafor- two years
Jeff Foote- couple days

This position is up for grabs. Right now it's not a need, but by this time tomorrow it could easily be a big need. I'm not even going to waste my time speculating. Though obviously Kaman and Mek may not be here next year.

Level of need: 7. Mystery, but with potentially only Mek under contract this is a need. Reports say Mek may be gone too. That would make this a 10.

So what are the Hornets biggest need? Without a doubt, PF. Followed by resigning some key guys (Gordon) at the two. After that, I can honestly deal with what we have right now.

agree with everything especially the PF. Goose and Smith are solid bench players we need a PF who can give us 18-22 a night

Nice work. I agree with most of your thoughts.

Ariza isn't good enough to pass up MKG if Davis/Robinson are gone. Though I'm not sold on Barnes that high. I know he's been a household name for a few years, but he doesn't do much other than shoot. And he takes some of the most difficult shots in college, how's he going to get good looks against pro defenders?

Good writeup.

We have a solid rotation at several positions, but are not excellent in any (which is needed in the NBA). And I agree PF is the absolute most dire need. Gotta get Davis or Robinson in the draft.

Assuming we re-sign Gordon, SG is the only sured up spot IMO.
Jack/Vasquez is acceptable if we improve at SF, PF, and C.
Ariza/Aminu is a capable tandem if we get a stud PG and PF.
Okafor is a solid, but undersized C. Keeping him increases the need for a big, banging PF and an upgrade at PG.
